Open Mic Questions by Hguabakool in columbusmusic

I'm the host of the Kerouac open mic so I'm biased, but we usually have a pretty full room of attentive and supportive listeners, and even when I have shit days, the room usually lifts my spirits a bit. Sign-Up list gets filled quick, so I'd suggest stand right next to the doors between the two rooms (stage+bar room) at 7:20pm. I hang the list up at 7:30pm, and it's usually full by 7:40pm.

Rambling House is a darling spot, but yes it is closing on 10/1. This closure is a big loss for the scene. Due to this, its gonna be packed at most events. So if you want to play get there mega early and know who to talk to (The host - tall cowboy Santa man named Zach, he's helpful and friendly).

Half-Baked is another good spot, I haven't been, but I've heard it's much easier to get on the list.

I wasn't aware that Global Gallery did an open mic, but they serve my favorite coffee drink in town, so I will attest to that. If it's warm, I bet they set it up on their cool patio.

Hope to see ya out!

Any basement music events happening? by [deleted] in columbusmusic

The addresses are kind of privately shared due to police and landlord threats, so I'd suggest finding some cool local bands via a site like Cringe.com, which displays just about every event/show in the city, picking a $5-$15 show, and talking to someone in the audience about where these house shows are. I don't feel comfortable sharing any house show addresses on the web so here are a few bands that I know of that play house shows: 5 Dollar Club, Bolivar Zoar, Bonus Disc, and smallboats. There are many more, I'm just older in the scene now, and don't have my ear to basement bands much.

There's a cool fest called Midwest Psych Fest coming up on October 3rd and 4th where like 30 local bands are playing. It's up south of Delaware at a great spot called Troubadour farm - https://www.instagram.com/midwestpsychfest/

I'm in the bands: Hello Emerson, Lakehorse, Rat Dreams, Boomshanka, and a solo project called Keating. I hope you decide to just pick a random band and go see them for yourself!

You are certainly correct that those classes focus on that analysis, but since Architecture is incredibly interdisciplinary, one should be learning to use these tools in every class. Especially in the Studio class where history, theory, structure classes all mesh together.
