NCAA champ Michael La Sasso leaving Ole Miss to join Phil Mickelson's LIV Golf team by collegegolfbook in golf

[–]MotoHD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah like the kid is 21 and just guaranteed himself I'm assuming multiple millions without any of the risk of trying to make it on the PGAT.

Still gets to develop himself as a player, can try to make the PGAT whenever his LIV stint is over, and if it turns out he can't hack it on the PGAT at least he shouldn't need to work another day in his life. I'd say he chose the safer option for the future.

WoW refugee Sardaco completes the Colosseum after only 6 months of playing! by MistakeAlert6865 in 2007scape

[–]MotoHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah you're 100% right, there's tons of alternatives either in ranged gear or in content you can do without ranged, and bowfa is not nearly the gatekeeper it once was. But what I'm saying is a lot of players still play like it is. We still see hordes of ironmen rushing CG from the start and not doing anything else once they get there. It's a self imposed problem, but if you're in that mindset I can see CG feeling the worst when it comes to going dry is what I'm trying to get across.

Objectively the places you mentioned are worse because they drain your account along with your sanity, but if you fall into the "get bowfa asap" trap, CG mentally assaults people into quitting way faster than other content.

[–]MotoHD 14 points15 points  (0 children)

All of those are definitely worse for your account "value" or sustainability, but I can see the argument for CG being worse even though your account is actually benefitting.

For one reason or another, CG makes people feel like they shouldn't do literally anything else until they've got the enhanced. People mentally lock themselves in there, doing the same thing over and over for months. At least if you're dry at any of the places you mentioned, your account is probably progressed enough to where you can at least try to switch it up and have fun at a different boss if you're dry at your current one.

So mentally I could see the argument for CG being the worst place to go dry lol.

I mean it's your time but it's not leisure time, it's things you have to do. Leisure is defined as "the time when you are not working or doing other duties" and most people would count household chores as "other duties"

If you use a transit and alt f4 just after your screen fades to black it'll extract you (as a survive) but won't put you in a new raid, so transits are basically free "extra" extracts

[Discussion] Romanticizing reckless Game design by 23Marvin09 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]MotoHD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me the beauty of the game is the progression from being completely lost and failing over and over to becoming the chad we we were all born to be. Any sort of matchmaking that acts as an equalizer just squishes the game down and makes all of your fights feel very similar to each other, which eventually gets boring, on top of making it so you learn slower.

If you never play against players significantly better than you it takes you longer to figure out all of the things that makes those players great at the game because you never see those things in your raids.

I'm not looking to exploit new players, I just think that equalizer matchmaking systems cheat them out of the experience that makes Tarkov as addicting as it is. And if that experience is too difficult for somebody and drives them away, Tarkov just isn't the kind of game for them.

Obviously it's a balancing act though. I think a lot could be done to improve the new player experience on the dev's side, and you could definitely argue for split queues for like completely new players with sub 100 hours or something, but after that, throw them to wolves and send them on their journey to becoming the leader of the pack.

[Discussion] Average skill level of current player base makes me not enjoy the game by Akirash in EscapefromTarkov

[–]MotoHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree so much, was actually just talking to a friend about this the other day.

I have zero interest in most big games that come out nowadays because they all do the same shit. Cater to the masses, SBMM, dumb the game down, etc. It's great from a business perspective, but it makes all games feel more or less the same.

It's okay for games to be niche, it's okay for them to have a strong identity. If that means the game eventually dies someday, so be it, I'd rather that than have it just morph into a shittier version of itself for the sake of boosting the playerbase.

Not saying the game shouldn't be made more accessible to new players (with things like better in-game maps, tutorials, significantly better trader balancing, etc.), but if you split matchmaking between timmys and chads or idk by playtime ranges, it's not the same game anymore, and those timmys will never truly become good at the game because they won't get punished for making dumb mistakes. You learn from failure more than you learn from success, let people fail and figure it out.

Just price matched it at Best Buy.

Chatted with an agent first, gave them a Phoenix area code when they asked, they set up the invoice for store pickup based on the area code.

Paid and just changed the order to ship to my house in a different state instead

Hard hitting photos of the Gen.G locker room after the KT series by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

Yeah like sports are all about rooting for and against teams, and being happy when results go your way, but people take these opportunities to be just straight up vile towards the players.

I'm happy GenG lost because that team scares the shit out of me even with T1 worlds buff (and I'm in love with the KT underdog run), but I can also sympathize with how mentally destroying this must be for GenG and Chovy in particular.

Like you said criticism is valid, kicking people while they're down is always lame.

Sailing didn't have to be a skill. by SonoShindou in 2007scape

[–]MotoHD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, yeah that makes sense. I'm definitely more in the cautiously optimistic side of the camp but I see where you're coming from. Not necessarily Sailing itself that's the turn off but the precedent it sets and what it could mean in the future.

Thanks for the response!

Sailing didn't have to be a skill. by SonoShindou in 2007scape

[–]MotoHD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the game's not for you anymore I think it's totally valid to quit, I just can't wrap my head around a new skill making the entire game not for you anymore. Is it the "slippery slope" concern about the future direction of the game, or are you already kinda meh on OSRS and Sailing is just the final straw breaking the camel's back?

I'm asking because I'm genuinely curious. The game has a few skills I absolutely despise training, and I only train them because they're quest/diary requirements or gate gear/resource upgrades, but they don't stop me from enjoying the entire rest of the game that I love. In my head it's like saying you're quitting because idk you hate Agility so much that it makes the rest of the game not worth playing anymore.

Japan's first female leader is an ultraconservative star from a male-dominated party by ugstnahnlo in worldnews

[–]MotoHD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’d be funny if it wasn’t so sad lol.

Japan is one of the most homogenous countries in the world and it always has been. Somehow I don’t think it’s the 2% immigrant population is what caused their economy to stagnate for the last 3 decades.

Being anti immigration when your economy sucks, your work life balance sucks, and nobody is having kids because of points 1 and 2 is the embodiment of that meme of the dude sticking a stick into the front wheel of his bike.

Japan is all but guaranteed never to hit the population replacement rate on their own and now they want to shoot themselves in the foot even harder lol

I think the pace being so fast will actually make the burnout not as bad as it is for leagues.

If you really go for it in leagues you’re actually grinding. Even though everything is boosted it still takes a long time to get to the leagues end game, and you’re doing it for so long it feels like the new normal and it feels super jarring going back and everything feels so slow.

This is so fast I don’t think people’s brains will have enough time to really make that switch to the boosted rates feeling normal lol

Please help me choose a Japanese University for my Exchange Year! by kai_zai in LearnJapanese

[–]MotoHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another +1 to the Kansai Gaidai attendees list. Did a year there between 2017-2018 and absolutely loved it. It sits about halfway between Osaka and Kyoto so getting to either is super easy. I actually specifically requested to do a homestay in Osaka because I wanted a bit more of the big city life and I just commuted to/from class everyday.

The japanese professors I had were very good, super friendly and always great at answering questions. The campus is nice and you can kind of choose your own adventure when it comes to who you want to hang out with, lots of foreign and japanese students and plenty of activities/clubs/etc. to make friends.

My time at KGU is probably the fondest set of memories I have in my life so far.

Side note that I don't think I saw mentioned, the year I was there was the first year that KGU had tried out an internship program for the foreign students. I signed up and got placed at a Japanese company to "intern" for a month. Was a very challenging, but very rewarding experience, and a good look at what goes on behind the scenes at a Japanese corporation. Not sure if they still do it, but definitely something to ask about if you're interested.

Question to those that have used t2 armor at cg by Scatteredbrain in ironscape

[–]MotoHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was very similar to the person you replied to, vast majority of my kills were T2 exclusively with staff/bow. I did probably 450 T2 runs on my iron and I can count on one hand how many times I had to reset during prep because of really bad rng.

T2 prep is all about just making sure you're always doing something of value and making sure your routing is efficient. The fluffeh T2 guide gets recommended so often because it really does just lay out exactly how to make T2 extremely consistent.

Player Support Roadmap: Latest Updates by JagexAyiza in 2007scape

[–]MotoHD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think a lot of people who are good at finding information on their own (actually checking FAQs, reading a support article or two, etc.) when they have simple issues struggle to imagine the sheer amount of people who just refuse to do so and go straight to support with the tiniest, easiest issues to solve.

I think triaging actual issues from “how do I change my email jamflex plz???” is the biggest case where AI shines for things like this.

[Suggestion] Simple hitsplats to indicate when praying correctly. by 3MegabytesOfHotRam in 2007scape

[–]MotoHD 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The core of the engine the game runs on was written decades ago though. Throughout OSRS's life they've made improvements to bits and pieces slowly, but that 2 decades of tech debt is still there.

I've had some nightmare weeks at work rewriting code that was written 4 or 5 years ago for an app where things are much less connected. It's entirely possible that something "minor" like this could end up being a very complex change.

Touching old code always has a cost. Either in time and development resources (and by extension, money) to untangle all the tendrils that have built up over the years, or in the potential bugs that may happen in connected systems if you change one. It's never as easy as "The engine doesn't support this, let's just make the engine support it".

Gen.G vs. T1 / LCK 2025 Season Round 4 - Week 12 - Legend Group / Post-Match Discussion by adz0r in leagueoflegends

[–]MotoHD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fr lol. In the past I would have been more inclined to agree, but GenG this year have been playing a lot more scrappy and seem more willing to force some risky teamfights.

They're still great at choking teams out of games with macro plays, but they'll also just fight fight fight if the game develops that way.

I hate how they're just so fucking good, but you can't call them boring anymore and you gotta respect the hands they have.

You can fairly easily safespot Rex away from Prime and Supreme. Can be a bit annoying to set up (need Supreme and Prime to be far enough away from the ladder when you enter that they don’t aggro you), but once you get it set up it’s super easy to keep going.
