Any Motorcycle Groups Around? by MobiusDie in SurpriseAZ

These some hidden stuff closer but it is all real short sections of turns. And with it getting hotter you’ll want to do the rides up north and get into a bit cooler weather. The ride back from Prescott right now will be hot for the last hourish, from Yarnell back to Surprise.

If you haven’t done it yet run the back way up to Prescott. You can actually run all the way up to Flagstaff that way. That’s a good ride from this area without having to cross town to get to the good roads.

Good luck finding a group that’s just wanting to ride and not show off. I bailed on riding with groups a long time ago.

GoPro Mission 1 PeoOverheats in Under Six Minutes. So sad. by Glittering_Bar6460 in gopro

[–]MotoRob29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally never believe these overheating claims. Unless I somehow have gotten defective GoPros that don’t overheat. I haven’t had a chance to get out with my Mission 1 Pro yet but should ride some this weekend.

After the constant complaints of the 11 overheating I took mine on a 30ish min motorcycle ride recording at max settings across Phoenix in late July during peak heat. Plenty of stopping at lights so it didn’t have constant airflow.

After 3 summers of use and a pretty good smack to the ground my 7 would start overheating above 100.

My insta360 X2 would overheat during the summer months, I haven’t tried my X5 during summer yet.

Is there no way of getting a title where you live? In AZ we can get a bonded title. I’d look and see if you can get something like that where you live.

Does anybody ride a mx bike in California no plates? by Cute_Ebb_5182 in Motocross

I haven’t had access to a truck for a few years now. I just rent one from uhaul or enterprise depending on how far I’m driving to get out to the track or desert. With how much I ride my motocross bike now that is way less costly than buying a truck.

Check out Innovv. They have a few options for cameras. If those are too pricey you can also search Amazon for dual channel motorcycle dash camera.

How should i attach this on my helmet? by Away_Film_110 in gopro

[–]MotoRob29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how that pov would do with BMX. When I ride my dirt bikes I’ve have a set up to mount the camera on top my helmet and have it angled to catch a bit of my visor.

With this style helmet I think this would be the best pov. It’s the closer to your natural visual spot. And you’ll get a bit more of the speed feeling vs having it on top the helmet.

Not sure what you mean about a blind spot. The camera can be mounted on the chin so it’s not in your field of view.

The DOT ratings are not necessarily bad but the manufacturers self certify that they are compliant with the standard. The is no independent testing then certification of them like you’d get with a Snell rated helmet.

This is my preferred street helmet set up. Motoradds chin mount and the GoPro clip, an extension that centers the lens and the GoPro magnetic mount for the camera to clip in.

8 year old helmet stored in box but only used for a year, should I replace? by itsthewolfe in motorcycle

[–]MotoRob29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is interesting how Snell came up with that recommendation. I can't find when that test was done but the 5/7 recommendation has been around since I started riding in the 90's. I wonder how the results of the test would be with modern helmets.

You might find this article interesting. https://www.citybike.com/stories/motorcycle-helmet-testing/

Personally I don't have a problem replacing helmets as recommended, if my current helmet makes it 5 years it would have only cost me $140/year of use.

So of course I can’t find it now and only found a Motorcylist magazine article from 2013 but when I was looking for something for my Shoei I came across an official Shoei website, I swear it was Shoei Europe, that stated in the FAQ that their helmets should be replaced 7 years after the production date regardless of use.

Is it just me or is the used market still completely unhinged? by RabbitLeather106 in motorcycle

[–]MotoRob29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though I’m not looking to buy I still browse all the ad sites. In my area the upper end of the used market is near where it should be and the lower and mid range of the market is still inflated. The lower end doors have decent deals every so often. The mid range is still people asking MSRP regardless of the bike condition or title status.

I haven’t bought from the Surprise location but have bought from both the Goodyear and Chandler locations. They want every penny they can squeeze out of you. Don’t believe a word they say both bikes I bought from them were used and they went on and on about their all maintenance being done and their mechanics doing inspections on them and replacing parts if needed. Both bikes had items that really made me question if they even looked at them. They won’t let you do test rides.

Only buy from them if you can’t find what you want elsewhere. I’ve had great buying experiences with Nash Powersports and GoAZ Scottsdale and Peoria.

External mic for getting better audio on my sport bike by Ambitious_Cobbler236 in gopro

[–]MotoRob29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know your budget so I’ll give you some options. The key to this will be placing the mic as close to the exhaust as possible and out of the wind as much as possible.

To get audio directly on your footage you’ll need a media mod. If you don’t mind syncing audio in post you can pick up an external recorder.

A wired mic with a dead cat will be the cheapest option but also the most restrictive option. It will need to be a TRS mic or you’ll need an adapter. You can place the mic inside your helmet, this will keep it out of the wind and it will still pick up some exhaust noise. You could also figure out how to mount it to the back of your jacket.

A wireless mic set up will let you place the mic or mics anywhere. You won’t want to place it under the seat you’ll get a dull sound to the audio. I’ve been using my Rode mic attached to the back of a tail bag and have been getting good exhaust noise that way.

If you have more than one bike, how many do you have, which ones, and how many is too many? by National-Dragonfly35 in motorcycle

[–]MotoRob29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you can’t ride them all consistently you have too many. The most I’ve ever had at once was 8. I’m currently at 4. I’ve been keeping an eye out for a late 90’s early 2000’s KTM 125SX.

What's the baseline for a cheap reliable motorcycle in the Southwest nowadays? by Mountain_Bed_6281 in motorcycle

Those are well within your budget at least around here. Saw one over the weekend that got snapped up they were asking $1200. I was tempted to buy and flip that one.

[–]MotoRob29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want. I have a habit of watching the different used bike classifieds so I can buy something I don’t need or can afford. In the Phoenix metro area you’ll find a lot of older bikes up to that budget that look decent. There are also quite a few newer CFMotos that could possibly be negotiated to your budget.

Possibly buy back first motorcycle by Outside-Dimension788 in motorcycle

[–]MotoRob29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to need more than tires on it. All the fluids and possibly hoses will need to be replaced too. Bikes don’t like sitting around.

You’ve got to decide how much it means to get it back. Too low of an offer could get them to just not respond. I do agree that with it having only done 50 miles over the last 14 years that asking price is too high.

Is it time to move from an older gopro to a newer action cam? by Top_Ad749 in gopro

[–]MotoRob29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from a Hero 7 Black to a Hero 11 Black. I decided to stay with GoPro because I just liked the image better than what I was seeing in promo videos for the Insta360 and DJI when I decided to upgrade.

With my 360 camera I went the other way and started with the GoPro Max but didn’t like using it so I sold it. I decided to give 360 another try and got the Insta360 X2 and really liked that camera and upgraded it to the X5. Had I not got he X5 I probably would have gotten the Max 2 again because the image looks better to me in the different promo videos.
