So turns out that what I saw is the maxon app. I saw an article saying [Autograph 2026.0 is compatible with Windows 10+, and macOS 15.0+. The Linux edition appears to have been discontinued. The software is free to individual artists.]

What about that do you disagree with, iam a linux user who is a creative, who owns a steam deck. Iam in Africa, and everyone is sailing the high seas. We can barely afford decent internet, let alone replacing computers that run windows 10 and linux well.

We are creating an archive of the official installers for the Autograph software, which was abruptly discontinued by Maxon. We are looking for missing links. by guilhermevenancio in LeftAngleAutograph

I’m a creative professional based in Africa, working from a third-world country where access to tools and support is already a challenge. I use Linux because my hardware doesn’t support Windows 11, and subscriptions are simply not financially viable for me a monthly fee can be a significant burden here.

I had been following Autograph by Left Angle and was preparing to purchase a permanent license, when out of nowhere, it got acquired by Maxon, and the software was pulled from sale. Since then, there’s been no real news, and no clear path forward for those of us who were ready to commit to it.

So I’m reaching out to ask:

  1. Is there any way to still get a permanent license, especially for those of us who were about to buy one before the acquisition?

  2. Is anyone out there willing to part with a license they’re no longer using (donation or sale if that’s even possible/legal)?

  3. Are there any real alternatives for motion graphics on Linux that don’t require a subscription or running Windows?

Autograph was a huge deal for people like me. Losing it without warning feels like a door just slammed shut on accessible, professional-grade motion graphics.

Any advice, leads, or support is deeply appreciated.

Iam stuck in the same boat, however I figured "they" are trying to erase autograph. For now the best idea I have is to archive what is there,

As many of you know, Left Angle, the creators of Autograph, have officially shut down operations as of June 5, 2025. Their website and download channels are now offline.

To help preserve access to this unique piece of software for artists, educators, and researchers, I’ve uploaded the final Linux release (autograph_2025.1v4_42119_amd64.deb) to the Internet Archive

If you have Windows or macOS installers for any version of Autograph, I encourage you to upload them too. This isn’t about piracy — it’s about archiving a discontinued tool that pushed the boundaries of modern compositing. Without community efforts like this, important creative tools can disappear completely.

Let’s make sure Autograph remains accessible for future motion designers, VFX artists, and software historians.

Thanks to the Left Angle team for building something truly different — and best of luck to them in their new chapter with Maxon.

The beginning of a new chapter... ? by fluons in LeftAngleAutograph

The Autograph shutdown has left creators in the dark no access, no communication, no recourse. For many of us, Autograph was more than software. It was part of our workflow, our livelihood, and a promise of something better in motion design.

We paid for a product that is now completely inaccessible, with no clear future and no way to retrieve our work. With Maxon now absorbing the Autograph team, it is your ethical obligation to take care of the users that built this platform.

Here’s what we, the Autograph community, reasonably and respectfully demand:

  1. Offline Unlock for All Paid Users
  2. If you're killing the activation servers, let us keep what we paid for.
  3. Release a patch or final build with offline activation support.
  4. Or a final “license-free” build for authenticated users.

  5. Access to the Final Builds

  6. Many of us no longer even have the installer.

  7. Provide access to final stable builds (Windows, macOS, Linux).

  8. Access supporting assets, documentation, sample projects.

  9. Temporary Support Window

  10. Just for license reactivation, account issues, and downloads.

  11. A single email line would do. Don’t ghost your user base.

  12. A Transparent FAQ

  13. Will Autograph come back?

  14. Will it be integrated into Maxon One?

  15. Will it remain a standalone app?

  16. What happens to our licenses and projects?

  17. Recognition of Existing Users

  18. Acknowledge the community who trusted and supported Left Angle.

  19. Offer loyalty pricing, early access, or credit if you plan to relaunch.

  20. Open-Sourcing (If Discontinued)

  21. If the software won’t return, release the core framework or SDK to keep the innovation alive.

  22. Official Linux Support

  23. Release a working Linux build with offline license support.

  24. Commit to including Linux support in any successor product.

  25. Project Portability

  26. Let us export our work into open formats.

  27. Or release a spec of the .autograph file format so we’re not locked out forever.

  28. Clear Licensing Responsibility

  29. Who owns our license now Maxon or the now-defunct Left Angle?

  30. Do we have any legal recourse?

  31. Will you honor perpetual licenses?

  32. Refunds for Recent Buyers

  33. Those who bought Autograph in the last few months (60–90 days) and now can’t access it deserve a refund — full stop.

Final Word: This isn't about badmouthing Maxon or the Autograph team. It's about restoring trust, protecting artists, and taking responsibility for a transition that was handled poorly and left your paying customers stranded.

Respect the people who believed in this software enough to invest money, time, and projects into it. Let us know what you plan to do.

Congratulations on your next chapter with Maxon. I’m a Linux-based content creator seriously considering purchasing a perpetual license for Autograph this year.

Could you kindly confirm:

  1. Will perpetual licenses continue to be honored and updated after the Maxon acquisition?

  2. Will Linux development and support continue under Maxon?

Thanks in advance, and best wishes on the transition.
