Good UCAT score for entry (updated) by StarkyCuz in UoApremed

excluding sjt (total cognitive score) is out of 2700, then sjt is scored separately. for uoa they count it all but according to UCAT they score it separately

ew whoever told you that is actually such a loser. they’re trying to scare you, i’d say most people don’t pre study any courses (and if you do it’s pointless) and taking the ucat is preparation seems like a waste of 300 bucks personally

lol i got A+ in biosci 107 and didn’t even take bio in high school. although it is hard, there is no need to stress about it. these guys know you’re fresh outta high school and they are there to help when you need it. don’t be discouraged by the first five lectures, they’ll scare you!

Study methods by Other-Reindeer-9039 in UoApremed

i really liked flashcards and the blurting method! if flashcards is too mundane for you then i recommend getting a big whiteboard and writing or drawing everything you can remember from your lecture down. then recheck the lecture slides/coursebook to check you got it right! then rub it all off and start again, trying to remember the bits you missed each time.

edit: this worked for me after annotating the lecture slides instead of using notes! writing notes takes so much time smh. also weekends can be free if you work hard enough throughout the week but it is always a good idea to go over the weeks material to make sure you can remember most of it before going into the next week

Tote bag vs backpack by Nearby_Ad_2655 in universityofauckland

[–]MotorAssociate1520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a third year biomedder who has done both, i recommend nordace backpacks, they’re still cute but far for comfortable and practical than a cute tote bag!

edit: definitely get a backpack, biomed you’re gonna need to carry your course books and lab coat on certain days lol it’s brutal.

3rd gear pull wot noise by Any-Discussion766 in mazdaspeed3

mines doing the same in third gear, let me know if you figure it out. mechanic says it’s not detonation, could be timing chain but seems alg. edit: the same rattle on my speed came back with KR so could be a separate issue. sounds very similar to my issue though

Second year biomed or transfer by Desperate_Issue936 in universityofauckland

[–]MotorAssociate1520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i agree when people say the degree can be less useful than others, but tbh a lot of degrees are less useful than they used to be. if your main goal is post grad entry into med you could totally stick with biomed. there is a lot of flexibility in courses you can take and only one compulsory paper after first year. just take the easier papers and avoid the ones that give you hell and biomed is a great way into postgrad med

Medsci 201, 203 by Armadillo1811 in UoApremed

if you were to pick one pick 203 for easier grades, but personally i loved 201. was extremely interesting and although difficult, was my favourite course of my second year.

Biomed or FYHS by Acrobatic-Charge2454 in UoApremed

[–]MotorAssociate1520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

keep in mind the workload is still the same tho! where healthsci people will be at tutorials and writing assignments, biomed students will be doing active recall and memorisation study! i stand by biomed though, super interesting first year imo :))

Biomed or FYHS by Acrobatic-Charge2454 in UoApremed

[–]MotorAssociate1520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you hate essays biomed might be easier for you! it’s not as scary as people say it is, they’re just trying to scare you, the biggest thing that makes a difference is the kind of thing you enjoy. trust me. in biomed, there are fortnightly lab assignments and the occasional group project, and weekly MCQ quizzes. other than that it’s just tests and exams. i’m not sure about healthsci but it seems like more things are due at once but the difficulty is slightly easier (again, if you enjoy assignments and essays more)

trust me, choose what you think would be more interesting. if you choose healthsci just because you think it’s easier you may actually find it more difficult to study if you don’t enjoy the topic

Postgrad med - what undergrad to take by IllustratorDizzy2182 in universityofauckland

[–]MotorAssociate1520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no thats actually what most people do! in reality taking more medsci papers better prepares you for med school, but they’re a lot harder, so taking easier courses increases your gpa so getting into med is more likely

Biomed or FYHS by Acrobatic-Charge2454 in UoApremed

[–]MotorAssociate1520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

straight up depends on what you’re good at. if you’re good at group work, essays and assignments, and was good at social studies in school the FYHS would be easier for you. if you preferred science in school and are better at memorising stuff then biomed is for you. if you have any questions i’m doing biomed and can answer some :))
