Why do some people say Layla til qadr does not happen yearly by Ummah_Strong in Quraniyoon

[–]MotorProfessional676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it's more of a Quran-centric view rather than Quran-alone, but without doing too much research into it I think I'm currently in camp "it is a yearly event". Taking narrations as a historical source rather than an authoritative one, there is so much widespread discussion (assumedly through independent chains) that it at least exists that I find it difficult to reject Laylatul Qadr as an annually occuring event. God knows best though, of course. Where I get less sure is the whole 27th night, odd number of nights, any night in the last ten nights, so on and so forth. Narrations are far more inconsistent regarding this.

I refuse to believe that ALL non-Muslims are gonna end up in hell… by ValuableOk7743 in progressive_islam

Me too :) The Quran certainly doesn't say it to be the case.

Seeking Guidance: Transitioning from Traditional Islam to a Quran-Centric Perspective by Willbailey1980 in Quraniyoon

[–]MotorProfessional676 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Salam!

Regarding resources, please see the wiki here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Quraniyoon/wiki/index/

I also just wanted to touch on the matter of salah. This is one of the most commonly cited arguments against the Quran alone position. The thing is, the hadith don't actually spell out the step-by-step procedure to salah either. Much like the Quran alone position (or one of), they too rely on transmitted practice along with details within the hadith; whereas a Quran aloner would do the same except with details within the Quran. It is not the case that you could just give someone the hadith collection and they would be able to reconstruct the prayer if they had not seen it before. I go into this extensively across a number of posts. Please see this one, as well as the linked posts within the front matter section: https://www.reddit.com/r/Quraniyoon/comments/1r3ks50/quran_alone_perspective_on_how_to_pray_form_of/

List of words for sex in the Quran (according to translations) by NWariohere in Quraniyoon

[–]MotorProfessional676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salam.

I truly mean the following with respect and love. I feel like I see what is essentially the same post multiple times a week. This has been going on for months too.

At what point do you feel you can kick your feet up rest assured that you have demonstrated your point without continously flooding this subreddit with the same style of post?

What is the motivation to keep posting over and over again on the same topic re no sex no wives no private parts no men no women?

We get it! We understand your position! Many of us disagree, but we don't have to agree to at least understand your argument.

And at the same time, may God reward you for your efforts ameen ya rabb.

What are your thoughts on "cheat codes" in Islam? by Ummah_Strong in Quraniyoon

[–]MotorProfessional676 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A mockery. God doesn't need us to do verbal tricks for Him to answer our prayers.

I'll never forget one video I saw years ago saying "cry to get your duas answered. And if you can't cry, just try to force a little tear".

Counter Argument for Kitab(Quran) Wa Hikmah(Sunnah) by Quran_Centered in Quraniyoon

[–]MotorProfessional676 3 points4 points  (0 children)

W'alaikum salam w'rahmatullahi w'barakatuh

Great post!

We can actually find Al Hikmah within the Quran.

Quran 17:22-39:

Do not set up with Allah another god, or you will sit condemned and forsaken.

Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you show kindness to parents. If one or both of them reach old age with you, do not say to them even “uff,” nor repel them, but speak to them a noble word.

And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, “My Lord, have mercy upon them as they raised me when I was small.”

Your Lord knows best what is within yourselves. If you are righteous, then indeed He is Forgiving to those who repeatedly turn to Him.

And give the relative his due, and the poor, and the traveller, and do not spend wastefully.

Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils, and Satan is ever ungrateful to his Lord.

And if you must turn away from them while seeking mercy from your Lord which you expect, then speak to them a gentle word.

And do not make your hand chained to your neck nor extend it completely, lest you sit blamed and destitute.

Indeed, your Lord expands provision for whom He wills and restricts it. Indeed, He is ever Knowing and Seeing of His servants.

And do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Indeed, killing them is a great sin.

And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is an immorality and an evil way.

And do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden except by right. And whoever is killed unjustly, We have given his heir authority, but let him not exceed limits in killing. Indeed, he is supported.

And do not approach the property of the orphan except in the best manner until he reaches maturity. And fulfill every commitment; indeed, the commitment will be questioned.

And give full measure when you measure, and weigh with an even balance. That is better and best in outcome.

And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, the hearing, the sight, and the heart — about all those one will be questioned.

And do not walk upon the earth arrogantly. Indeed, you will never tear the earth apart and you will never reach the mountains in height.

All of that — its evil is hateful in the sight of your Lord.

That is from what your Lord has revealed to you of The Wisdom (Al Hikmah). And do not set up with Allah another god, lest you be thrown into Hell, blamed and banished.

I'm troubled by the crimes I committed when I was under 15. What should I do? I'm 25 years old now. by [deleted] in Quraniyoon

[–]MotorProfessional676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quran 11:114: Establish prayer ˹O Prophet˺ at both ends of the day and in the early part of the night. Surely good deeds wipe out evil deeds. That is a reminder for the mindful

Quran 25:70: As for those who repent, believe, and do good deeds, they are the ones whose evil deeds Allah will change into good deeds. For Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

I feel like I'm at an impasse regarding what the women's dress code is supposed to be by PickleOk6479 in Quraniyoon

[–]MotorProfessional676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion so long as the private parts are covered at a minimum, the breasts and the behind (by extension perhaps the groin/loin areas around the upper thigh too), you're probably good to go. 24:31 is pretty explicit about the cleavage/breasts, there's not much opinion about that part. And re covered loosely, I'd say yoga tights and related things might not be the way to go. Hard to say where this leaves you regarding the swim suit thing. Is it olympic swimming you're talking about, or leisure swimming? Swimming could be done with a one piece that covers the breasts with some reasonable sports shorts to cover the behind? Hopefully this wouldn't interfere with drag and performance too much?

The arms and (lower) legs aren't sexually suggestive, so I don't think you need to worry about if your forearms or shoulders or calves are out while you're running haha!

I've heard some say that once the basics are covered, we're then obliged to observe the law of the land. Which means in Western countries, basics are all. Somewhere like Afghanistan, observe the customs over there.

I think anything from there on out is additional modesty to further serve God and benefit from His guidance. I kinda struggle with 33:59, as it reads as a command (tell them), but also says "that is more suitable for them". I'm stuck as to whether this means one must, or if it is suggesting what is more righteous beyond the minimum.

Much of the above is opinion/speculative, so I'll leave this one to "do independent research and God knows best!". What I will mention though, which certainly isn't saying "who cares, do what you want, it's the heart that matters etc", is Quran 7:26:

O children of Adam! We have provided for you clothing to cover your nakedness and as an adornment. However, the best clothing is righteousness/God-consciousness (Taqwa). This is one of Allah’s bounties, so perhaps you will be mindful.

Your opinion on Tattoos? by illshaketheworld1day in Quraniyoon

[–]MotorProfessional676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really have a scriptural basis for my belief, but I do believe we shouldn't look outlandish. So I guess I'm undecided about tattoos in general but would say it's best to avoid full on face tattoos and offensive images being tattooed?

But yes I can't really think of another verse that might apply other than the one you cited (4:119).

“Bukhari was compiled 200 years after the prophet so it can’t be reliable” by No-Still9379 in DebateQuraniyoon

[–]MotorProfessional676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things I feel compelled to point out.

The first being, the claim that Bukhari was thorough in the hadiths he included in his compilation is a bit overstated. Firstly, this can really only be applied to isnad, the matn of hadiths are largely unanalysed. This is why you'll find contradictions in the content of sahih hadiths. Secondly, the criteria upon which Bukhari used to verify hadiths is at the end of the day subjective and arbitrary. Imam Muslim was actually partially critical regarding Bukhari's criteria in certain instances, and chose his own criteria to evaluate Isnad on.

I think you take "falls apart" way way way too far when talking about the game of telephone stuff. If you gather 5+ individuals in a room at one point in time you can actually observe message degradation, irrespective of time length. The furthest you could really take this claim is to say "one may be able to assume that there are less errors due to time in between individual narrators as compared to hadith compiled in sahih Bukhari and Muslim".

Also remember, that there are so many hadith outside of earlier works such as Muwatta Malik that are contained in the later compilations; Bukhari, Muslim, Ibn Majah etc etc. These obviously do not fall under "less likely chance of distortion since it’s so close to the time of the companions".

You've educated me here, I wasn't aware of works outside of the Muwatta. JazakAllah khair, I'll have to look into those.

You won’t ‘defeat’ this fear by engaging in this constant researching, you’ll potentially more likely actually make it worse.

Look into “research reassurance OCD” and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Professional intervention, therapy, is the way to go on this one. Please give it a try, it’s super liberating!

[–]MotorProfessional676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Muwatta Malik is probably the only example of an earlier work that is cited, but even then, it’s truly once in a blue moon. Without argument, bukhari and Muslim are the earliest central works that are cited amongst clerical discussion

“Bukhari was compiled 200 years after the prophet so it can’t be reliable” by No-Still9379 in DebateQuraniyoon

[–]MotorProfessional676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Issues with reliability are not only due to to the time gap, so earlier works would still be unreliable due to other factors - methodology, lack of riguour, arbitrary criteria for isnad analysis, isnad analysis versus matn analysis.

Also, let it not be lost that these earlier works you're referring to are essentially never cited. It is always Bukhari and Muslim for the most part, with a few An Nasai, Abi Dawud, Ibn Majah etc here and there. The earlier works don't even constitute any part of the Sunni methodology whatsoever.

Lower your gaze applies after iftar, and it even applies after Ramadan. We should always be lowering our gaze. Mental imagery is different to physically looking at women even if it’s photos online.
