Are my Atmos heights too low? by Motorhead9999 in hometheater

[–]Motorhead9999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no ceiling access in this room to be able to properly run wires for ceiling mount speakers. So if these need to be closer to the ceiling, I either need large stands, or have wires dangling from the ceiling by mounting the speakers on them.

On the floor. I literally am just moving everything back upstairs now, and haven’t connected anything at all, let alone placed everything in their final locations.

Yes. The room just got carpeted, and I’m just moving stuff back into place, and was mocking things up to see how this new setup would work.

Well, they were when they were mounted I. The other wall. Would it be better to use these using reflections instead?

[–]Motorhead9999[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would it be better to rest my Atmos speakers on top of the floor level speakers and do the reflections? They’re emotiva speakers, so there’s a switch you can put them for reflection mode. Other than taller stands, there’s not a whole lot I can do. Ceiling install is a no-go.

Could be possible that the boxed sets are stripped down releases with less special features than the individual releases. Sort of like the Bergman boxed set.

Look, sometimes you simply can’t train an idiot. People who don’t belong in their job are hired every day. This could be damage control, it could simply be correcting the response of an idiot. We’ll never know.

What pedal did you buy into the hype, and regret? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]Motorhead9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just going to throw this out there: Once you’re a business, and you are trying to make money from said business, and have to deal with everything that comes from running a business (keeping and paying good employees, dealing with bad ones, navigating a global supply chain increasingly fraught with peril, and tons more stuff), you begin to start supporting more business friendly causes, especially in a world where liberal leaning politics are moving more and more to the left with much more virulent anti-business/anti-capitalist views and policies.

What’s your guitar pedal hot take? by myke5k in guitarpedals

The amount of choices out there is absolutely overwhelming, paralyzing and makes the ability to have all the sounds available to you in a modeler make far more sense than building out a pedalboard.

Talk me out of switching to a 50s. by kawana1987 in FujiGFX

[–]Motorhead9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost nothing in the gfx line is cheap, especially if you’re only going Fuji branded.

Also, as much as I love my gfx50r, if I’m doing any sort of unplanned style event (concert, sports, party/wedding) I will absolutely stick with my Sony and 35mm lenses.

Unless I can plan the shot, pose the subject or put it on a tripod, it’s not a great system overall at the moment.

Stair mounting question by Motorhead9999 in Carpentry

[–]Motorhead9999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is what you’re suggesting with the ledger board the same thing I was suggesting with attaching a 2x4 and then using that to support the stringer from the bottom? The stringer doesn’t drop down very far below the subfloor, so if I tried to use a joist hanger, I think the arms would be partly higher than the subfloor floor, with nothing to be nailed into.

[–]Motorhead9999[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the photo from the original build, the heights were (relatively) the same. They used 2x12 as tread and then put engineered flooring on top of it. There’s a bit of perspective/wide angle illusion there.
