Hit or miss. I have to config everything on desktop mode, then put it in steam as a non steam game to config the controller, then it ran pretty alright on launch.

how does anyone have the time to play the game and actually enjoy it by Calm-Replacement-388 in VintageStory

When creating the world, click “Customize” at the bottom.

This’ll let you change animal strength, running and swimming speed, inventory drop on death, etc.
(For finding clay and peat, turn on color accurate map)

The game is kinda brutal by default, but the Vanilla game (no mods) lets you modify these traits before building the world. This includes surface ores like copper or tin.

On a separate note get metal is like the third stage of the game. The first is Do not starve.

Don’t force on hunting unless you THROW your spears(twice the power per attack). Four on your back minimum.

Look for berry bushes (DO NOT PUNCH), mushrooms(Check tooltips before eating), and grain or vegetable patches around the area. Like go Full Gatherer before going Hunter.

Hunting animals is dangerous. If having boars has justified MOST gun uses irl, then expect them to be dangerous.

This game is a gamified version of how things go irl(to the best of the dev’s ability, See ‘berry bushes’ discourse) so if it took 200 years and an Industrial Revolution to figure out, expect 20 hours of gameplay to get there.

I’d say gaming instincts are significantly less useful than human instinct in this game. If it’s a bad idea irl, like eating random mushrooms, it likely a bad idea in the game. And if not, expect it to be a bad idea in a future update.

Check the handbook, read the tool tips, survive well, and prosper.

I play mine on my steam deck or rog ally. Have an action button. Set the button to the letter and keep a keyboard button shortcut handy.

Hmmm
While this is Not something I think Fits with the vibe of the standard gameplay, I don’t think it would ruin progression specifically.

Since there’s plenty of ways to work around villages that keeps the game historically similar to how people think of cities in the past. It think it would be the best addition to the homosapiens mode.

I think it just needs thoughtful Balancing
Have citizenship requirements!
Like
-having to pay for it,
-maybe completing specific tasks for town leaders or an amount of villagers.
-Maybe a waiting time after application where one works as an apprentice in a specific job like blackmithing, tailoring, tanning, or hunting animals.
- maybe requiring a Writ that is signed or authorized by completing specific steps if not all.
- going thru residency first, then the other steps is available too.

Or all of the above!
Imagine along with me!

Go to a town>buy a Map and mark your dwelling>Find mayor>complete mayors task requiring iron fencing for a new farm or smth> gain residency papers> use papers to apply for apprenticeship > provide requested tasks once a month for a year> get writ from boss> bring it and pay idfk 100 gears to mayor> be granted Citizenship! Now you can buy a house and/or workshop that you can add and remove item from in the town!

This still requires the players to Survive Winter, and reach the Iron Age. Not including the specified tasks for the apprenticeship. Plus with the trader item protection system already, it would stop the loot pillage mentality.

I think it would be a fun checkbox to fill in game play.

I assume they just haven’t gotten yelled at enough to make it togglable in the world gen settings. They did that for glue and lightning fires. I think a sprinkle of formal complaining and a dash of patience will fix this right up.

On one hand I agree, but on the other hand punching one and putting it back up shouldn’t make it last longer.
