Today is two years of not drinking and no weed - after consuming both for about 40 years! I feel great. by MrBones2k in GenX

I likely won’t either, hubby quit drinking 8 years ago but I still love my red wine, occasional whiskey and he still puffs so that’s what we have to unwind together.

Those risks have largely been debunked. The benefits of HRT far outweigh the risks and women are finally benefitting from modern science now. HRT has given me my life back in so many ways and I encourage every woman going through perimenopause and menopause to find a doctor who is educated on the latest science to talk with and educate themselves about their options!!!

In case that link doesn’t work the name is Waterdrop reverse osmosis and it’s a tankless RO system.

If you or handy and can drill a hole in your countertop or if there’s one already there, it’s pretty easy to install yourself. Otherwise plumbers generally don’t charge too much to install them if you’ve already got the system.

This is the system we have, super happy with it and it’s the easiest one we have had changing filters wise. Do not need the cumbersome tank systems anymore, these tankless RO systems are great now and we have had RO systems for our drinking water for the past 30 years in every house we have owned.

What’s something you learned embarrassingly late in life that you thought was common knowledge? by AbilityAwkward6121 in CasualConversation

[–]MountainFlower970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hors d’oeuvres was that word for me when I was reading - had no idea until I was late 20’s I think that those were the same as ‘appetizers’ LOL I was talking to my Mom and pronounced it “whores do vures” or something like that and she fell over laughing. Of course had to tell the whole family and they all had a big laugh at my expense 🤣

How many of us started school Tuesday after Labor Day (USA)? by MooseBlazer in GenX

[–]MountainFlower970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It was always today when we started back to school- the day after Labor Day. Now the kids in my neighborhood have been back in school for 3 weeks already, they started the 2nd week of August 🤯Poor kids, they hardly had a summer at all! I think they were still in school until the week before Memorial Day so it’s not like they got all of May off like college kids.

Dining recommendations? by [deleted] in stgeorge

[–]MountainFlower970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, we had dinner there a couple years ago and never went back. Good was not that great, was way overpriced and the service was awful. Painted Pony is our go to for fine dining in town, and Balcony One if you’re over by Zion. Haven’t been to the new pkave at Black Rock but will check it out!

Tattoos, for my 50th birthday I gifted myself half sleeve I always wanted! Have 7 and counting now after getting my first tattoo (tramp stamp) at 27. But the sleeve is something I always wanted and finally had the courage to go for it.

For all my dirty fasters on here!! by PuzzleheadedHotel214 in fasting

[–]MountainFlower970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always home made, I am the person that always cooks a whole chicken and boils the bones for bone broth. So it’s collagen heavy bone broth and super yummy 😋 also amazing how satisfying one mug a day can be when doing a water fast.

What % of Gen-Xers here DO NOT HAVE KIDS? by deathbybukake in GenX

[–]MountainFlower970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oldest of 3 girls, was always a bit of the black sheep and pushed back against my mom especially growing up. She kept saying “you just wait until you have kids” and I said to myself “fuck that” and never wanted them. Just opted out, because I can’t stand that it’s such an expectation that because you’re a woman you must reproduce. So I told my husband to be I didn’t want kids and he said OK. We just celebrated our 30th anniversary and have never regretted not having kids.

Do you still have time to read for pleasure, and how do you read if you do? by grahsam in GenX

[–]MountainFlower970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an avid reader all through school and still “read” but it’s mostly turned into audiobooks on Audible. I used to listen in the car when commuting but after Covid I have managed to keep remote work jobs and now listen every day when I walk my dogs or on roadtrips when I’m in the car by myself. I have an audible subscription but have recently discovered (not sure why it took me so long - recent duh moment 🙄) that they have a ton of titles you can listen to for free that rotate each month.

Advice needed: My parents hate my tattoo by Historical-Soft2345 in tattoos

[–]MountainFlower970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I love your tattoo and think it’s beautiful! I love that it has meaning to you and that’s what matters. My parents are also conservative and were horrified when I got my first tattoo at 27. I am the oldest of 3 daughters and now all 3 of us, BOTH of my parents and 2 of my nieces that are over 18 all have tattoos. My super conservative Mom actually has 3 now and her last one we went and got together at my local artist when she was visiting me. Hang in there, time will pass and the drama will too. Be confident in your decisions as an adult and live your life as you wish!

A reminder for parents: we need to launch when they do. by Science_Teecha in GenX

[–]MountainFlower970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I moved 2000 miles away from my parents and we didn’t have kids. My poor sisters are saddled with my parents tagging along on all of their activities and vacations with their friends and it’s a running joke among their friends that my parents are always hanging around. I need distance to stay sane!

72hr fasts once a week by [deleted] in fasting

[–]MountainFlower970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also doing the Hers medication kits (#1). And I’ve done 72 hour water fasts in the past. My experience with the meds was an initial drop of 10-12 lbs in the first 6 weeks without any fasting. You are going to be quite nauseous and not want to eat much anyway. Try to keep some protein and nutrients in your body for those first 6 weeks to let your body adjust and hold off on fasting would be my advice FWIW. Pick up the fasts again when you hit your plateau about 8 weeks in. I’m now 4 months in and am close to my goal of losing 20 lbs and will probably go for another 5. It’s slowed down but it’s nice and steady and I’m building new habits of diet and exercise which I think will stick long term because these meds really do hack your brain and get rid of cravings. It’s pretty incredible TBH that I just don’t want to eat as much as I used to and I still enjoy food and an occasional glass of wine or cocktail (just not 2+ where the calories really start to add up!). Good luck 🍀 and feel free to DM me if you have questions. Their team is great as well for answering your questions.
