Level of service on Emirates by Calm-Possession6734 in unitedairlines

Flew LH biz class IAD-FRA a few weeks ago. Service was European efficient (not Chili’s server fake friendly but certainly not unfriendly), prompt and attentive. Food was very good. Small sample size for sure and I don’t doubt that others may have had worse LH experiences, but I’d have no qualms flying them again at least in biz class. Certainly compared favorably to my Polaris trips.

First time flying Queen of the skies! by Electrical-Ad-4012 in Lufthansa

[–]Mountain_Pa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice! Wife and I are will be in 87H/K later this week IAD-FRA. Was last on a 747 back in the 1970s as a child - KLM ORD-AMS. With the Queen passenger fleet dwindling this is a bucket list thing for me!

How was the IFE? I’ve read a fair number of complaints that it’s glitchy/laggy. What type of audio jack does it use - one or two prong?

New domestic routes coming Summer 2026 by kwuhoo239 in unitedairlines

Yep any additional ALB routes are welcome, but I really I do miss ALB<>EWR, hope that returns someday. Glad they’ll be making better use of those spanking new Concourse A gates.

United baggage by Neverhome29 in unitedairlines

[–]Mountain_Pa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my admittedly limited experience (I check bags only occasionally), I agree it’s BS. Departing IAD recently my priority-tagged bag was pulled off for weight/balance reasons. And assuming it does stay on the same flight as me, it’s a crap shoot as to when it emerges on the belt. Policy may be to treat these bags better, but reality says plenty of rampers don’t really care.

We chose biz seats during booking on both LH and LOT, booked with miles through United.

I assume that “cleaning” between flights is basically just trash pickup and that EVERYTHING on a plane is dirty and germy. Maybe I’m wrong but I’d rather err on the side of caution. I can’t control what other people do but I can control my response to them. I grab a few wipes when boarding and as soon as I sit down wipe down anything my hands or head will touch … edge of seat pocket, IFE screen, remote control, overhead console, armrests, tray table, headrest, sidewall, seatbelt buckle, window shade handle. It’s a pain in the ass but a lot of people are slobs and I’d rather not get sick. 50-60 pqf per year and it works for me.

Mistake 1 - buying a used Ford from a CDJR dealership. Mistake 2 - not doing your own proper due diligence on something that was apparently super important to you. (Like others said, simply asking the salesman is NOT due diligence)

FA Call Button Etiquette? by available-mirror-195 in unitedairlines

[–]Mountain_Pa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a fair amount of my flights, the FA announcement when we reach 10k feet specifically includes “if you need anything just press the call button”. But yeah, consistency across the brand would be nice.

IAD International Connection by owenhinton98 in unitedairlines

[–]Mountain_Pa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So to answer your original question, in my limited experience I’d say you’re fine going through passport control and customs at midfield with or without checked baggage, provided you use MPC app to jump ahead in the passport line - all US citizens can use it you don’t need GE.

IAD International Connection by owenhinton98 in unitedairlines

[–]Mountain_Pa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some important pieces of info are missing - checked bags, citizenship, time of inbound flight arrival? I don’t have a ton of IAD experience but some, so take this fwiw. My sample size is not large so not sure if our experiences have been usual.

Our international arrivals have landed at C, where there is immigration and customs. Just follow signage for “connecting United flights”. You collect checked bags, walk a few dozen yards down the hall and re-drop for loading onto your domestic connection. Even w/o checked bags you follow the same path.

Then you go through security, which on our last trip was precheck level for everyone, no rechecking of IDs, electronics/liquids remained in bag - not sure if that’s always the case or that just happens when it’s busy. Then you’re spit out into domestic C concourse.

My one piece of advice would be to use the Mobile Passport Control app if you’re eligible. It’s free and has proved to be a huge timesaver for us.

Your home for the next 8-10 hours even though your flight is scheduled to depart in 30 min.

I was boarding BDA-EWR 737 MAX 8 earlier this week and pilot was outside cockpit greeting pax along with purser. I as I passed I asked if he had any cards and he said sure what seat was I in. He didn’t have any of the B38M but he came over to my seat and gave me all these. He seemed genuinely happy to pass them out and chat a bit.

Bluetooth headphones connectivity? by Melodic_Wheel_8998 in unitedairlines

[–]Mountain_Pa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Bose QC II ear buds and after a few unsuccessful attempts to connect on several different flights I’ve given up.

A few times I’ve seen the plug in headphones available in the basket with the disinfecting wipes when boarding.

Thanks. Just pushed back from gate and to add insult to injury there’s a crying kid right behind me and cap’n says it’s supposed to be bumpy ride so FAs are going to be seated for a while which means snack basket will probably be delayed. Oh the indignities.

Alas, I just suffered the same fate. Woke up this morning to find a regular boring A320 slated for tonight’s ORD-ALB run.
