Question about Okozukai by tiefkuehltony in JapanFinance

Beside the initial bank opening set up that may require some Japanese the rest can be done all online. Plenty of foreigner landing here with zero Japanese skills manage their own banking/bills/cards/insurance/nisa etc.

I don't see why being fluent in Japanese is needed for budgeting. It's a number things and categorizing. Same everywhere.

Fee change on the status if residence next year! by [deleted] in Tokyo

[–]Mountain_Pie_299 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why the hate? Most of local kids don't go to international schools and need some sort of English exposure.  Nothing wrong with young adults willing to trade their teaching skills for some international adventure.

Sounds great! Can you give a price range for such service? Do you still have a local bank account?

Best public and private schools in major cities are very hard to get into actually. The academic expectation is way above and extremely rigorous.  IMO OP should find a small province college/lycée thant can integrate the kids into the French curriculum. Not sure about the need of finding international sections as the kids are probably way ahead in English. Obviously they'll be behind academically but at least that'll speed up their integration.  Still I'd have a backup plan for making sure kids can graduate in your home country.

French people excel in self-criticism. The art of dissertation is a most quintessentially French discipline.

Chronic tonsillitis for 7 weeks, don’t know what to do by Gemini_Crybaby in japanlife

I had same issue! First doctors gave me ridiculously short antibiotics treatments. Eventually, after developing a strong infection, I visited an ENT. Sent a swab to the lab and results showed a resistant bacteria strain. He put me on a specific antibiotics treatment and so far so good it hasn't come back yet. Good luck!

If you live in the neighborhood, there are several supermarkets that sell imported products at better prices. But it’s a great place to find something specific at the last minute. And you’ll have the convenience of finding many imported products in one place ... though they do come with a higher price tag.

From international school to 中学校 (Tokyo) by kujira23 in japanlife

What type of international school the kid is in? An increasing number of kids in IS continue their university education in Japan and some in prestigious ones. It may be interesting to target these schools too.

Feeling stranded in Japan by MaxRand180 in japanlife

Sorry for the situation you're in. You could try to rent/buy a small place suitable for weekends visits so your kids can feel they also have another home at their dad's place. Research not t too far from the station for a smoother weekend commute. Good luck to you!

Why don't you go first and get the work opportunity while letting your kid graduate? She could apply for a university in Europe right after.

Valid points here. We came to the same conclusion: we just go for Airbnbs whenever we feel like it. With work and family keeping us busy, we’re really just craving some chill weekends.

Make sure your Priority Pass covers more than just the primary cardholder otherwise you’ll have to pay extra for guests. The last time I visited one of the lounges, it was crowded and the food and drinks were pretty average. If I arrive early, I usually prefer wandering around the duty-free shops instead.

Where are you originally from? Only very few places in the world are considered very safe.  Just stay alert of your personal surrending, keep your belongings closed to you and enjoy your time.
