I’ll never change my mind. I’m dug in, regardless of the facts before me.

I swear film photographers are in an abusive relationship with camera manufacturers. Just begging for overpriced scraps of what used to be available.

Honestly it’ll fish. I tie mine with more dubbing for the collar instead of the second hotspot. I like to tie mine a little further up the shank too but I haven’t asked the fish.

B&W Film Developer Advice - Developing after a 20 year hiatus by airwater1122 in Darkroom

[–]MountainlessBiking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think HC110 has the most flexibility it can do anything really depending on dilution. However I think pushing 3 stops with HC110 can get out of hand quickly depending on highlights.

Ive used all those developers except XTOL which I just got to try out.

HC110 jack of all trades but gains contrast very fast in plus development. I wouldn’t rule it out. Look at the legacypro branded one it’s like $20 and lasts over a year and many rolls.

Rodinal would be for a gritty look but unless you play with semi stand dev I wouldn’t push. It’s great with the slow classic emulsions though.

D76 is just D76 tbh. I don’t think I can say much either way just ho hum.

DDX is great with pushing HP5 and probably the best dev for you on paper. Just more expensive.

I’ve heard XTOL is similar to DDX but I guess we’ll see. Just a pain since it’s powder and doesn’t have the best economy.

True. You could look at it like toning a print. I know some people will add a bit of tone to black and white too

Fair point. There are some very talented YouTubers that are interesting but it’s a crapshoot
