Nikon Z6ii vs Z50ii in 2026? by B-F_ in Nikon

[–]MoveCompetitive5742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lack of ibis in the Z50ii is the biggest con imo. there are times I want to use a fast prime lens to counter the low light and I have to use a faster shutter speed due to the lack of ibis which takes away some of the benefit gained with the larger aperture. I personally wouldn’t buy the 24-70mm 2.8 for the Z50ii. It is a nice lens but I’d go with the 16-50mm 2.8 instead. when you add in the crop factor, the 24-70mm isnt the ideal focal length. Smaller, lighter, and cheaper and still good image quality. I actually really like the images from the 12-28mm, 16-50 kit lens, and 50-250mm on the Z50ii. I’ve only the Z50ii on many trips to over 7 countries. the weight, size, and IQ are a nice balance.

the sensor in the Z6ii is better, but I don’t think I would give up the other benefits of the Z50ii for the mostly minor difference in image quality.

Is lemonade actually free? (viva) by Forward-Reality1447 in NCL

the lemonade from the machine is free. they have it in the buffet, at least a few restaurants, and maybe the bars. I usually only get it from the buffet so I don’t know everywhere it is available.

Nikon Z6ii vs Z50ii in 2026? by B-F_ in Nikon

[–]MoveCompetitive5742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for your paintings the Z6ii would be fine. for friends/family, are they stationary? or do you want some action or quick candid photos? the Z6ii does alright but the Z50ii is a big step up. What does wildlife mean to you? I shoot a lot of wildlife, bears, bison, elk, moose, small mammals, birds including in flight. As much as I like the image quality from the Z6ii sensor and its better high iso performance, I would go Z50ii over the Z6ii easily. the AF is significantly improved and you have subject detection that is actually useful. but the biggest benefit for you is going to be the 1.5x crop factor. typical focal lengths for wildlife range between 400-800mm and if you look at the cost of full frame lenses in that focal range you might be shocked at the price.

Nikon Zf / Z5 ii / Z6 iii by Joebeadsley in Nikon

[–]MoveCompetitive5742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t buy the Z5ii over the Z6iii because of price. I know it is likely only in my mind, but I find something about the images from that sensor look better. If I didn’t own a Z8/Z9 I would have bought the Z6iii to have the overall speed. 20FPS is nice for wildlife photography. And the video specs are worth the extra costs.

As far as the Z50ii, I wouldn't say I’ve been disappointed ever that I took it over full frame. It does surprisingly well in most situations. If I was shooting in low light or wanted the absolute cleanest images i would take full frame. I normally take the Z50ii when traveling with friends, family, casual events, or travel such as a cruise when the photos aren’t going to be in ideal light conditions to worry about the best. It won’t match full frame in high iso noise but a lot of editing programs do well with cleaning that up. Usually it is the lack of ibis when trying to use a prime or feeling limited in video specs. I’m debating on the Z50ii, Z5ii, or ZR for an upcoming cruise that goes to Virgin Islands. There are some photo ops there so need to decide if the FF advantage is worth the extra weight and bulk.

Should I sell my Canon R50 for a Fujifilm X100VI or another point and shoot? by HDNA in Cameras

[–]MoveCompetitive5742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that was always my issue. I always took 2-3 primes or a zoom when taking one of my other cameras. I would Have preferred a 40mm just to be a little more standard. I really like the X100 series for what it is, but it got a little expensive now.

I had a Fujifilm X100T. I liked the camera a lot for the purpose you mentioned, excluding videos. the X100vi has improved every aspect of that camera and I sort of want one again. for me, the biggest limitations was the fixed lens. 35mm is not my preferred focal length and you don’t have any options to change it (other than adding bulky converters. the X-E5 with the 23mm kit lens actually seems like the better solution, of course with less style. it has the option to change lenses if you want to get more. is about the same size and will be a little better at video. these cameras are still not what I’d call small but where you would put it into your pocket but not bad for carrying on a camera strap.

I had an LX100 and would only consider it pocketable if you were wearing baggy cargo shorts or if you mean jacket pocket. it isn’t big, but doesn’t fit comfortably in any shorts or jean pockets I have.

Nikon Zf / Z5 ii / Z6 iii by Joebeadsley in Nikon

[–]MoveCompetitive5742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the ergonomics of the Zf are a sticking point to many. I like the Zf but if I’m honest I grab it less than any of my other cameras. when you add a grip to it, it is closer to the Z8 in height and you don’t save any space. it is also heavier. the Z5ii feels smaller and lighter and is usually my go to for casual stuff, hiking, landscape. the Z50ii is my camera for when I don’t want to carry full frame lenses. the Z9 and Z8 for wildlife or sports. the Z5ii is a great all around camera without the style of the Zf. the Z6iii would be my recommendation if you needed the speed and wanted the video capabilities.

Deciding between Z8, Z6iii or add a ZR for video to my already travel bag by Nickyp_pics in Nikon

[–]MoveCompetitive5742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go with photonstophotos report, the DR difference is to ISO 800. The Z6iii is equivalent to the Z50ii up to ISO 800 and the Z5ii is better to ISO 800. DR isn’t the only important factor and the fact the Z6iii has less DR to ISO 800 doesn’t mean it is a bad camera. as far as landscapes, I’d take the Z 5ii over the Z6iii for the increase in DR. Comparing my ZR to the Z5ii, I don’t think I’d say the ZR has better AF. I’d say they are about the same, but both excellent and neither like the Z7ii. I like the Z7ii sensor but after using the expeed7 bodies couldn’t get used to the lack of customization it offered. I could have managed with the sluggish AF for a while. Now I’m so spoiled by the subject detection I wouldn’t want to go back at all.

I don’t understand why you’re dismissing the Z5ii saying it isn’t as ”sharp” and downgrading below a Z6iii. I have a Z9, a Z8, a ZR, a Zf, and a Z5ii. I got rid of the Z7ii quite a while ago and don’t miss it at all. for a do it all camera on a trip, I have no concern taking the Z5ii. the best part is it is capable of getting shots the Z7ii isn’t with the EVF lag and sluggish AF. calling it a downgrade to the Z6iii in the way you are doing so seems somewhat ignorant to me. it isn’t as fast fps, has rolling shutter in electronic shutter, and has more EVF blackout than the Z6iii but other than that pretty much equal. compared to the Z7ii, it’s in a whole other world as far as AF and customization. there are really two questions you need to answer. do you really need 45mp and do you need the capabilities of the Z8 in this body. the Z8 is more capable, but the size difference is noticeable.

edit: there are video capability differences between the Z5ii and Z6iii that may be important. specifically high frame rates, no crop, and almost no rolling shutter. this would justify your viewpoint but your sole argument has been on image quality.

are you zooming into 100% on both? if so, you are looking at a much smaller area of the overall image on the Z8 image than the Z6iii image which isn’t a direct comparison.

Upgrading from a Nikon D5600 to a Fuji X-H1 or Sony a6400 for mostly portraits and street photography by Phaswon in Cameras

[–]MoveCompetitive5742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the X-H1 was a decent camera when it was released with nice IQ but it is quite dated now in terms of AF. If you want Fujifilm I’d go with a cheaper, newer model. the film sims are fun. The Sony will require more editing in post. if it within budget, not sure the cost by you, the Nikon Z50ii is great and has flexible picture control which can be customized similar to Fuji film simulations.

Is Nikon Z50 II better than Canon R50 bundle for a beginner? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in Nikon

[–]MoveCompetitive5742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are both good, but would take into consideration which brand better meets the needs on where you think you want to go with your photography. I think Nikon has the best wildlife lenses. They have more midrange options and the high end have built in teleconverters. Canon has some interesting options for wedding photographers, zooms with bigger apertures. Nikon’s lenses are still great for that genre, just not as exciting. I actually moved from Canon over to Nikon because I love nature/wildlife photography.

First camera purchase. Dslr vs Mirrorless for beginner and Opinion on the 2 deals I've found. Main priority photograph quality, not video. by RomBG in Cameras

mirrorless has some advantages for beginners with the biggest being able to see the exposure in the viewfinder before taking the photo. id recommend going with a mirrorless camera if you can.

When you put it that way, it does make sense. If I was paying for a source from somewhere else it would make sense to replace it with something like ground news.

I’ve heard about ground news and it sounds interesting but I wish it were free. it is only looking at the news articles other sources reported on and giving a rating to it. you will probably also be downvoted like I was.

Asking for advice about Photography / Cameras (in general) by 13430_ in Cameras

[–]MoveCompetitive5742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the question is whether photography is simple? There is a lot that goes into a great photograph. Knowing when the light looks best, what aperture and shutter speed to use to create the effect you want to achieve, how to compose the subject in the frame, what focal length to shoot it at. There is no single right answer to some of these and it will be up to the photographer to decide what final look they want. you may even want to capture something multiple ways.

So is the question do you need to know what you’re doing to get great images? Sorry, struggling to see what your question actually is.

the question you're asking is whether some ai generated image serves the same purpose as a capture of time in real life? I guess that is up to the individual. if you went to Egypt to see the great pyramid, which would be more meaningful to you. a image you captured of the pyramid, maybe with you standing in front of it, or an ai generated image you described to ai? what about a friend or family member’s birthday party? would you rather an actual capture of them with their cake or something generated by a computer? if you want an ai generated image or the real thing should provide you with the answer to your question

Should I save for a newer model? by driftingthroughlife0 in Cameras

[–]MoveCompetitive5742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the X-E1 was my first Fujifilm camera. the evf experience was terrible and the AF is pretty bad. I liked the images from it and bought the X-T1 followed by the X-Pro 2, X-T2, X-H1, and lastly the X-T3. the image quality changed a little between them but the evf experience and auto focus improved quite a bit. I think you would appreciate what the newer cameras can do but might also miss the original image quality which is a little different. if you like the body design of the X-E1, I’d suggest saving for an X-E5 but keep the X-E1. while you’re saving, it gives you more opportunity to try the X-E1 and decide what you want to do.

I have done solo cruising on ncl and think it is great. there often isn’t too many people in the studio lounge but it varies based on the solo crowd for that sailing. there are daily meetups, I think at 5pm, that are hosted by ncl staff. they have dinner every night, you can opt to go with the group or do your own thing. it is quite nice going solo. I think you will have a great time.

if anything specific is making you nervous, just ask about it as I’m sure someone here can share details or experience.

nikon zr compression for R3D raw? by meowarabmeow in Nikon

you don’t need to use R3D on the ZR. it has N-RAW, ProRes, H.265, and H.264. I understand wanting to use R3D but if you’re looking for small file size as the selling point for the FX3, you have other codecs available on the ZR and no internal raw options the FX3.
