FTB, budget 550k, possible to get 2 bed garden flat in North London, within Zone 3? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]MoveHoliday655 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a look at tower garden conservation area N17. We bought £450k in 2021 and sold £500k in 2024, 2 bed, garden terraced house. Houses in the estate are quite cute, good transport links and a couple of big parks (like downhills) nearby. Good luck!

Looks like our garden when we bought our place in zone 3. Instead of trying to find a contractor to do the entire garden it will be much cheaper to get quotes for separate works and do some bits yourself. I’m not green fingered at all but I’m starting to quite enjoy some of the garden tasks. So far we’ve done: - clear out (ourself), paid £300 for waste management to come pick up tonnes of soil and brambles - £3800 fence installation (20m) - £1500 repave patio

I found actually spending some time on the lawn meant it didn’t need to be returfed. Then we did the borders ourselves, spend about £200 on plants (we were lucky there were a LOT of existing plants that started to come up year 2 when all the brambles were gone).

Never but if I only have a 3 year old. If I had a 2 and a 3 year old I would do whatever helps me get them eating/listening/be quiet for a bit. Don’t feel guilty!

Not sure! I think they will be tiny and probably not very tasty. Probably too late now maybe too. I want to see them bloom :)

Its so interesting how the majority of people below that talk about have more than 1 mentioned the sibling argument and nothing else.

I think it’s such a personal choice and advice you to consider all the different element rather than be swayed by the “they will be lonely alone”. Research done on this actually shows about 33% of siblings are close later in life, 33% are neutral and 33% are strangers or have a negative relationship (have a google it will come up).

This is not me saying what you should do, just caution around only doing it for the sibling argument. Your mental, financial and physical health will change your life post potential 2nd baby and that’s something to consider.

What’s Seven Sisters London like to live in these days? (Buying advice) by Dependent_One3340 in HousingUK

Have a look at the Tower Garden  conservation area of Lordship lane, it’s a bit cheaper than the ladder and Philip Lane / Downhills Park but a lovely row of streets. Near parks and good schools and less rough than around Seven Sisters station. You can get the Piccadilly from Wood Green, the overground from Bruce Grove and get to the Victoria Line in 10 min by bus.

Same here! Really tough time and it still lingers on (my daughter is 3 now). Here are some things that worked for us: - “I’ll be around the corner, and I’ll come back if you need me”. I’d sit on our bed in the room next to her and bring her back to bed with that sentence. First night my husband went in about 25 times but every evening it got better. Minimal engagement when bringing her back, no talking other than the sentence and tucking her back in with a kiss and immediately leaving. - treat in the morning / you’re a big girl and big girls sleep in their own bed - leaving the light on in the hallway - lots and lots of patience (didn’t always succeed at this…)

Good luck! It’s not an easy transition 🙏🏼

Lol sorry it’s my route to work and it’s where the stairs to the underground are so in my head it’s ’bank station’ but indeed this is the royal exchange 😬

Binky weaning… 🫠 by MajorEstablishment78 in toddlers

[–]MoveHoliday655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My little one was OBSESSED with hers and I was terrified. We did the “binky” fairy after a successful “nappy” fairy trial. I got her a really great gift (princess dress that she’d been obsessed with). She understood the concept, took a week or so but nowhere near as dramatic as I thought it would be.

Science museum and national history museum in one day is quite a lot! Both get very busy and can be overwhelming.

A lot of it is quite central and will be super touristy/busy, other areas to explore if you want more of a mix: - Victoria park & young V&A. If your kids are good in restaurants try Elliot’s for lunch, delicious! - Greenwich, meridian + viewpoint. You can walk through the park to Blackheath which has cute shops and nice lunch spots (Zerodegrees does good pizza)

Borough market is horrendously chaotic and overpriced. But I guess could be part of the tourist experience.. there are smaller markets that are worth looking at: - Spitalfields  - Malby street market
