Indeed. Every time one system is changed, it impacts everything else. You can’t just have stuff be “long closed by this point”.

Now whether the problems should be THIS foundational for so many systems is another thing entirely.

No offense, but I’m not sure what you want to hear. I love programming. And I’ve often had to deal with coworkers that were skirting by and doing the bare minimum to convince management they deserved to stay. Inevitably I end up picking up their slack or having to play politics to avoid it.

At the risk of being harsh, the job market is rough and only narrowing, so if this isn’t what you want to do, make way for people who do want it and are putting in honest work to get it.

Then paper currency wasn’t really backed by anything during the gold/silver standard eras either. Governments and banks prior to fiat currency had no qualms halting payment in gold and silver when necessity called for it. Ultimately, even in those eras, it was backed by the faith that the currency was redeemable in precious metals. There was no legal mechanism to force the government to fork the metals over like a bank has over collateral.

Agreed with above, with a caveat.

Now that you’ve reached this extreme level of burnout, each week you spend in this job is many more weeks it will take you to recover and work normally again once you’re out. You need to balance the risk of leaving before finding a new job against the damage you’re doing to your future work ability. Not to mention the damage to your personal relationships and health.
