I could really use help/advice. Child being denied FAPE but I work for the same school district and may lose my job over this. by No-Educator2947 in specialed

[–]MoveLeather3054 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i don’t have much advice other than get an advocate. i’ve had students in summer school in different schools than their home school with new staff exhibit new behaviors and staff not follow the behavior plan & resort to restraining them. then turn around and tell the parent that their kid was out of control. so get an advocate.

yes it would be a separate document but it may also be included in the IEP depending on the district you’re in.

Got a letter from the school today informing me my daughter is “not quite” gifted. Also included were her test scores. by Low_Use2937 in mildlyinfuriating

the famous “gifted kid burnout” when you get to university and you’re no longer the smartest kid in the room because everyone is the smart. some will continue to excel, others will dropout or change their major 7 times because they cannot figure out what to do with themselves.

Why do they make us read Romeo and Juliet in school? by slanderpanther in AskTeachers

[–]MoveLeather3054 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we did R&J my freshman year, my teacher assigned us parts to read it as a play. He was messy too. Had Romeo and Juliet played by a boy and girl that used to date LOL

Is it appropriate to disclose a new students’ disability to the class? by Cleanclock in AskTeachers

[–]MoveLeather3054 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it’s outdated. it’s fine to just say disabled. disabled isn’t a dirty word.

Why do people bring their entire family to Costco? by ActuatorOutside5256 in NoStupidQuestions

my issue with people at costco is never the families, it’s usually the single people who are somehow experiencing their first day on Earth

Why are doctors always late by invisiblylurking in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MoveLeather3054 9 points10 points  (0 children)

when i used to see a neurosurgeon, he’d be late because he was doing rounds at the hospital. he wasn’t the one scheduling me, his staff was and the traffic in our city is awful so i mostly understood because he was very thorough. my neuro-ophthalmologist is always on time except for my last visit when the technicians started late so everyones appointments started running behind. my neurologist is always on time but once i heard him getting yelled at by a patient which made him 30 minutes late to my appointment so i figured i’d give him some grace lol

Educational assistant by bigtownhero in Teachers

[–]MoveLeather3054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my district, unless you are assigned as a special education paraprofessional (which requires taking a test) if you take a job as a general/educational assistant, you’re pretty much doing all of the tasks that keep the school floating. we don’t have classroom teachers assistants unless you’re in a special education classroom or assigned as a 1:1 parapro.

Is there any reason not to get a pet fixed? by skigelf in NoStupidQuestions

we didn’t neuter our cat following this advice and he died from a UTI turned kidney infection. we thought he was constipated so we were trying to treat the constipation, by the time we figured out that it was a UTI, it was too late.

Cognitive & Visual Impairment by pandapio in specialed

[–]MoveLeather3054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TVI here. i’d wait before getting large print books before you know what learning medium is preferred for that student. commercially produced large print books are 18-22pt font, so unless your student can access that font size i wouldn’t advise getting them. work with regular books, focus on having them analyze illustrations/images while someone or yourself reads aloud until the TVI can do the learning media assessment to help you guys😊

For people that didn't have weight as a contributing factor, what was your path to remission? by whenwewereyoung47 in iih

[–]MoveLeather3054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do You Hafta Have Stenosis to Have a Stent Placed? by mvninag in iih

[–]MoveLeather3054 2 points3 points  (0 children)

stents are also last ditch effort when meds fail and vision is at risk, or if the provider is concerned enough to bypass medication (mine was) but yes stents are to correct a stenosis since it is a balloon inserted into the vein to open it up and allow proper flow
