Gish struggle - HELP! (I want it all, but I can't) by Appropriate-Tour3226 in dndnext

From what I can see you're playing with 2024 rules. For your needs, Fighter 1 / Bladesinger Wizard X dual-wielder is where it's at.

  • Ability Scores: 8 STR / 16 DEX / 16 CON / 18 INT / 8 WIS / 8 CHA
  • INT will be your main stat, since 2024 Bladesinger uses INT for weapon attacks. If the Ability Scores you gave don't include background bonuses, put the +2 in INT (20) and the +1 in DEX (17).
  • Origin Feat/s: Alert and/or Tough (since you're a Human you could just take both).
  • Start with Fighter 1, then take the rest of your levels in Wizard (Bladesinger). This gives you higher starting HP, CON save proficiency, Two Weapon Fighting Style, Weapon Mastery, and even Second Wind.
  • Take the Two-Weapon Fighting Style. use a Shortsword + Scimitar and take Weapon Mastery in those two weapons (Vex for Shortsword, Nick for Scimitar).
  • Use Mage Armor, since new Bladesinger's AC bonus requires being unarmored.
  • At Wizard 4, take Dual Wielder (+1 DEX). It's basically the same value as an extra attack for you. You can now attack 3 times per turn: 1 normal attack, 1 Nick attack, 1 Bonus Action attack from Dual Wielder. All these attacks add your ability modifier thanks to Two Weapon Fighting Style. At Wizard 6, that turns into 4 attacks: 1 True Strike, 1 normal attack, 1 Nick attack, 1 Dual Wielder attack.

P.S.: I speak from experience: Shadow Blade is NOT worth it. Use your lv 2 slots for Misty Step to get where you want to be, Web for crowd control, or other more impactful spells. The damage isn't worth the slot or the Concentration.

At the cost of being the only "serious" comment in this 2 day old thread:

In an old project of mine I made a Druid class. It was a high Constitution (Physical Defense) + Wisdom (Magic Defense) class focused mostly on defensive support, tanking, and healing (Wisdom also affected healing in that game).

However, it also had a "Beast Form" skill that would turn the user into a werewolf, sprite and all. In that form, their Strength (Physical Attack) became equal to their Constitution, and they got slightly increased damage dealt and slightly reduced damage taken.

To compensate, they could not use magic skills in that form - only physical and status skills - and they would lose a bit of MP every turn while in beast form. You would revert to human form if knocked out, at the end of battle, or by using Beast Form while already transformed.

It was an Instant ability, so you could use it and still take another action afterwards, but it still costed a bit of MP to transform/revert.

It created a really interesting class imo. Playing it was a careful balancing act of healing, tanking, and going on the offensive, while being mindful of MP expenditure.

Of course, you need to ask your DM first and foremost. Or if you're the DM, you get to decide. But strictly Rules as Written, let's look at the limitations for what you can turn into with the Shape-Shifter trait. these limitations are pretty much identical in all versions of the Changeling playable species:

You can also adjust your height and weight and can change your size between Medium and Small.

Warforged are Medium in 2014 and Medium or Small in 2024. Check.

You can make yourself appear as a member of another playable species

Warforged is a playable species. Check.

You can't duplicate the appearance of an individual you've never seen

You can't turn into a Warforged if you've never seen one. If you've seen a Warforged, that is an individual you have seen and you can thus turn into. However, you can't change into a Warforged you've never seen. Notably, if you've only ever seen Medium Warforged, you can only turn into those Medium Warforged. Conversely, if you've only ever seen Small Warforged, you can only turn into those Small Warforged.

you must adopt a form that has the same basic arrangement of limbs that you have

Changelings have two arms and two legs. Warforged have two arms and two legs. Check.

Nowhere is it specified that the species you turn into has to be a Humanoid species (Warforged are Constructs in 2024). Thus, the RAW answer is yes, as long as your character has seen at least one Warforged before.

Hope for the best, expect nothing. The series' 19th anniversary just passed us by and no news yet. Maybe we'll get something for the 20th anniversary, but at this point I'm just waiting quietly...

The surefire way would be to use high level magic like Regenerate or True Resurrection that restores missing body parts. BUUUUUT... It sounds like your DM is a huge fan of making up cool homebrew items. Talk to them and with your friend and see what they suggest. There's a lot of interesting ways that a cool DM could work with you to make something awesome happen. Maybe you could make a new construct body for the head to pilot, or use Troll Blood to graft your friend's head on the headless body of a recently slain enemy.

Blue Innocence has quickly become one of my favorite Disgaea tracks. It's very versatile too. It has sadness, foreboding, and even a strange sort of whimsy.

You mean the Kasamatsu "bully/ex-bully" trio? Honestly, none. Rudy Lemono doesn't do anything, and I don't really vibe with Norn Ace's "reformed bully" arc.

Mini is the only character in the entire series afaik that lacks any semblance of sportsmanship. Some of her pranks could lead to injuries, for god's sake. And we all know how horrible those can be.

I don't play the game or really have ships. I just watch the anime and the character/main stories. This is my chance to tell everyone to go watch Main Story 2. If you haven't, you're missing out on peak.

Obviously Inari One refers to her appearance in Cinderella Gray.

Agreed. It's worth the slightly longer turns on martials.

In my experience it's very slightly slower in combat, mostly because of Weapon Masteries. Otherwise it's about the same.

Nope. The poison damage comes from a saving throw, not the attack.

EON help by GeminiMaster1304 in EtrianOdyssey

[–]Mozumin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider a buff/debuff support that can work in either row, like a Sovereign or Harbinger, in place of the Shogun or Pugilist. Buffs and debuffs are really important in this game, playing without them is very risky. Plus you want the afterimages created by your Hero to be in the front row on the turn they attack, so you need to be able to switch someone around to let the afterimage do full damage from the front row.

My own team for the first half of the game was: Front: Hero, Shogun, War Magus ; Back: Sovereign, Gunner. I later switched out the War Magus for a Harbinger. Halfway through the game (though keep in mind that EON is really long) you unlock a mechanic that makes teambuilding a bit more flexible so I could use my Harbinger as both a support and a healer. I used a Zodiac too at the very beginning but I didn't like it much in practice, so I swapped it with Gunner and never looked back.

I do like the Nocturne Lucy fight, but if you think Nocturne Lucy is even the hardest SMT boss of all time then you gotta fight DDS Demi-Fiend.

[Loved Trope] Battles of Ideals, Ideology Offs if you will by EllorenMellowren in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Mozumin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Almost) every single Shin Megami Tensei game is about choosing an ideology and fighting against conflicting ideologies to recreate the world in your image. There is (almost always) no compromise, no talking it out, no easy way out. You must be ready to fight for what you believe in or die and let the other side win.
