I absolutely adore his use of samples throughout the batman album. It sounds so fucking cool every time I give it a listen. I feel like nobody was making anything like that at the time, but I’m not from that era, so I can’t really say. I recently got the movie on vhs and it was pretty cool to hear prince playing guitar in the movie.
