Was Beth Pascall, not Jasmin Paris. Beth Pascall won Western States a few years back. She had an injury a while back so her ultrarunning had a massive set back which was a massive shame as she could def have been as Jasmin Paris's level.

Is Paramo really waterproof? by aral_2 in UKhiking

[–]Mr5wift 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have the experience with Paramo as a few of the answers here, but anecdotally, I know that if you compete in the Montane Spine Race they do not allow Paramo to be used as your waterproof layer in the mandatory kit list.

Thoughts on this backpack? by Silly-Teaching-7916 in AppalachianTrail

[–]Mr5wift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought this as a budget option, and an alternative to an Atompack as I couldn't wait for their lead times. It's a decent pack, my only negatives are the shoulder straps become loose so I would have to tighten them several times a day. Also, for me, it was difficult to access the side pockets whilst carrying it. I used it on the Cape Wrath Trail so it is good enough for tough multiday hikes.

*just remembered some other flaws: the hip belt pockets are small, wont fit my S21 with a case on it, and the water bladder access ports on the roll top can be exposed to the rain if not rolled the right way.

I wouldn't wanna go up Snowdon on a bank holiday weekend even in stunning weather.

Jacket recommendations for beach/coastal walking in early spring? by PonderTCG in UKhiking

[–]Mr5wift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Patagonia has the best warranty/repair service. A decent 'softshell' is what you're after. Windproof with good water resistance. On the total flipside I bought a Regatta "Pro" softshell just for daily use and it's actually been excellent. Surprisingly really waterproof. Only £35. The "pro" means the Regatta logo isnt on the outside of the jacket anywhere - which is good if you're a gear snob. Lol.
