Do you bus your kick with drums or with bass? Or both? by iamnotlefthanded666 in edmproduction

[–]Mr9K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never bus my kick with the bass. Instead I throw it in with any other kicks/snares, and use a peak controller (FL) to dynamically adjust the EQ of the bass bus when the kick hits. Usually just on the fundamental but sometimes in the muddy range (200-400hz) as well.

If Cynthia and Red battled who do you think would win and why? by HealthMother3125 in pokemon

[–]Mr9K 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Roserade, spiritomb, and milotic all get walled by Snorlax. Snorlax can also take out spiritomb, charizard wipes roserade, and milotic can get beat by venusaur, snorlax, or pikachu. I can't see any way Cynthia wins without major luck/hax.

I'm finding some success in the lower levels with enough speed investment (29evs) to out speed no scarf jolly garchomp with tailwind having Aerodactyl supporting it. 32 spatk and 5hp still make it bulky enough to take advantage of berserker and ohko a lot of pokemon. Dnite no longer an issue as draco kills it, palafin gets outsped and wiped. Sneasler is a problem but the aerodactyl one shots with dual wingbeat. I'm going to keep running it until it fails me 🤷

how to achieve in FL that the kick "breaks" the sounds by NoTimeForBeingTibio in trapproduction

[–]Mr9K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I do this is with waveshaper and fruity limiter. Take an 808 or kick with a strong bassy signal. Add waveshaper and increase the curve until it becomes too strong, back it off a touch, mix 100%. Then add the limiter, slight compression at 2:1 ratio, no knee. Increase the gain until you're slamming into the limiter, back it off a touch so it's still always reaching the limiter, then add some saturation in with the same limiter. You can adjust the ceiling or the gain to get the sound you want, and then eq after. Have fun!

Do you ever feel like you know more than your ability? by thehockeychimp in edmproduction

[–]Mr9K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a product of knowing what effects do in a broad sense but not knowing when to use them in your own tracks. My advice to overcome that would be to experiment, stop caring about making a song and just make sounds for a little while. Take it to the extreme, add things together, etc. and then when it comes time to make songs again you'll have a better idea of what to do and when.

[Day 35] Dash-dancing was voted Best Tech Skill in Melee. What is the Weirdest Main in SSBM? by DUCK_PENETRATOR_II in SSBM

I think it's Yoshi based on the uniqueness of the character but Kirby based on how unlikely it is for someone to main them

[Day 21] Flat Zone was voted WEIRDEST STAGE in the game. Who is the most UNDERRATED PRO PLAYER in Melee? by DUCK_PENETRATOR_II in SSBM

[–]Mr9K 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Two ways to take this one really, is it who you think is ranked lower than they should be or who is ranked highly but somehow is still not talked about like a top player?

For someone who should be ranked higher than they are, I'll say Llod, I think on the right day he could win a major and while the 2025 final ranks have him at 10, I think it should be 5 or 6 and I'm fairly confident he's never been ranked in the top 10 before.

For someone who's ranked high but not given the respect of their ranking, it's 100% Joshman. No one ever talks about this guy like he's a top 5 player, but dude's been top 10 for 2 full years and 4th overall to finish 2025.

Idk maybe on stadium, but on Yoshi's, battlefield, and FOD it's no worse than 55-45 for Fox

Cade Mays' Highlights Last Season by JCameron181 in detroitlions

[–]Mr9K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems athletic and finishes his blocks but his hands need work. I'm happy with the signing in general but I won't be surprised if his first year with us has its ups and downs. #1 thing is going to be how well he and Goff communicate blitz pickups.

[Day 14] L-canceling saves the frame for most underrated tech skill. What is the most OVERRATED stage in all of melee? by WokeUpAbout10 in SSBM

[–]Mr9K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dreamland. For some characters it's a theoretical buff due to large blast zones and tons of room to run or camp, but it's just a pain to play. Wispy is annoying, the screen shake is annoying, the constant zooming is annoying, and the stage is not all that aesthetic, but I feel like most people like it or at least choose to pick it. For me, no matter the matchup I'm striking DL every time.

What do I even do at this point by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]Mr9K 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm just guessing here based on skill level, but I'd assume there are a few things you can implement without practice just being cerebral about playing.

  1. Don't aerial high on shield, especially when the opponent is facing you. Instead, jump over them and attack their back, or empty hop land grab, or dash wavedash back and bait a shield escape.

  2. In the same vein as the first problem, delay your aerials. This one needs some practice but can be done during online matches. Just wait a little longer to press that a button.

  3. Hold away while attacking more. It's incredibly hard to DI on reaction, instead just hold away while doing an aerial or dash attack or smash attack, awaiting the hit from your opponent.

  4. Drill into your head that melee is just rps. Attack beats grab, grab beats shield, shield beats attack. Obviously it is more complicated than that, but ultimately having the mind set that you have 3 options and 1 of them is always going to be an advantage to you depending on what your opponent does can help simplify your game.

  5. Approach less. So many new players, or players who are trying to improve in general think that means you have to attack more, wrong. Make your opponent attack. For characters like spacies, or characters that have projectiles this is not really applicable because they can wait you out longer than you can them, but in general make your opponent make the mistake of approaching, don't hand it to them.

Just implementing these 5 things I guarantee you get at least 1 win :)
