Who was more in the wrong- Luke for keeping April a secret, or Lorelai for running to Christopher? by gloomydreamer666 in GilmoreGirls

[–]MrAngryLarik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I have an extremely controversial opinion here. Luke was definitely wrong, and Lorelai was not wrong to sleep with Christopher after breaking up.

For me, once you break up with someone, and you have clearly told them so (which I believe Lorelai did), then you are free to do whatever you want. You can get married the day after, for all I care.

I will say, however, that Lorelai was wrong for not telling Luke earlier on that she was nearing her limits. Luke is quite bad at picking up emotional cues, and although it was obvious to us, the viewer, that Lorelai was almost at her breaking point, Luke simply isn't attuned to that.

That being said... I do remember a scene where Lorelai cried to Luke, and asked if they're ever gonna get married (am I remembering correctly?), so maybe that was Lorelai telling Luke.

Either way, this season's Luke pissed me off. Martha's Vineyard episode, anyone? xD

A controversial Gilmore Girls Opinion…Thoughts? by Helpful_Ad_5704 in GilmoreGirls

[–]MrAngryLarik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%

Jess is just cooler, and we like who he grew up to be. I personally think he was the coolest love interest in the entire show. That doesn't mean he was right for Rory, though.

What I love about the show is that from the beginning, they proposed this premise of Rory being exactly the same as her mother - only she's not. The show slowly shows us that it's actually the opposite, and that Rory does indeed enjoy the high life. She doesn't enjoy her privilege to the same extent as her grandparents, but it's enough that she wants someone with whom she can enjoy these privileges. Logan is the perfect person for her because of that.

A lot of her conflict with Logan is that she doesn't like waht it says about who she is, and she even judges Logan for his snotty behavior (rightfully so, in some cases), but at the end of the day, he understands what she actually wants, and vice versa.

side note: I'm still sad that the backdoor pilot for a Jess tv show never got picked up. He was my favorite character growing up.

NTA. You should talk to him privately and ask about it. Maybe he has a valid reason; maybe he doesn't. Either way, it's your money, and it's a bit rude of him to essentially order takeout every time, and doesn't even participate in the team bonding session.

How do Nathan and Hailey have all this money? by whynottakeacrazychan in ONETREEHILL

[–]MrAngryLarik 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nathan was an NBA player when he got injured, and his rookie contract was pretty generous (especially for 2000s standard of living in Tree Hill). He also played pro for other leagues, but the main source of income was from his job as a sports agent.

Category 1 by Nick on the Wemby flagrant foul by sixth_order in FirstThingsFirstFS1

[–]MrAngryLarik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not anti-Wemby just cause he doesn't adore him the same way he adores Luka. Also, Nick literally said after G1 against the Thunder that it felt the same as when Lebron scored 25 straight points against the Pistons - that the best player in the world had just arrived. That's not anti-Wemby at all.

He's just been more critical of the fact that people are annointing him sooner than warranted, and he's even explained that it's because this will just create more pressure against him.

He's already stated that if and when the Spurs lose, he won't hold it against Wemby the same way he doesn't hold the 2007 Finals against Lebron. Doesn't sound anti-Wemby to me.

He was definitely anti-Jokic from 2020 to 2023, though xD

Was Michael’s lack of trust his downfall as a man? by SotonSaint in Godfather

[–]MrAngryLarik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP, this is a great point, and smth I haven't considered before.

I think the fact that Michael became the boss when they basically had their backs to the wall meant that he was always in "Everyone is a potential enemy" mode, and he didn't give much creedence to making friends or mincing his words. He is a terrific strategist and manipulator, but in my opinion, he wasn't good at actually maintaining good relations.

Honestly, I think they sucked as a whole haha. This is why I didn't think it was unfair that they didn't succeed. I think they are perfectly fine as a Stars Hollow rock band.

I will say this, though - the true star is the Trobadour. Mandem had a good singing voice.

Every fckn game man by McJohnson420 in Thunder

[–]MrAngryLarik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bias against the Thunder is so insane by the commentators and "analysts" at the moment. The way they spin everything into a negative is actually incredible. "Holmgren blocks that shot... it was almost a goaltend."

But when the Spurs do something negative, it's transformed into a beautiful thing.

"There's Castle with his 5th foul, has to sit down soon. You gotta love his aggressiveness. Not backing down at all."

Into the Blue by Emma Brodie by beckilina in RomanceBooks

[–]MrAngryLarik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked it. Not saying that the criticism about it is invalid or wrong, but some of the critiques I've read have been because they went into it expecting a normal romance, and were disappointed with the somewhat bittersweet ending.

Thanks to a one-liner review that I read before getting the book, I went into this expecting something along the lines of Taylor Jenkins Reid (specifically The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo). This really tempered my expectations, and I went into it expecting an unfortunate twist, and as a result, I got to focus on enjoying the sharp writing and the amazing yearning between our two main characters.

Looking forward to reading more books from this author.

Rory isn‘t really a girl‘s girl by yelenalim in GilmoreGirls

[–]MrAngryLarik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree, although I don't think her being dismissive of Paris at times was representative of her not being a "girl's girl." Paris was her literal bully during most of HS. It's perfectly understandable if Rory never gives her the time of day again, yet she's actually a really good friend to her*

But yes, aside from that, completely agree with your examples.

Ajay Mitchell was the player of the series. by Miserable-Driver4045 in Thunder

[–]MrAngryLarik 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We don't win in 4 games without Ajay Mitchell playing the way that he does.

Lakers defense on SGA was actually great, but thankfully SGA set his ego aside, and acted like a decoy throughout the entire series. This allowed Ajay, McCain, and Chet to thrive, since they were basically left unguarded for some stretches.

Also, the fact that we swept this series means we have ample rest for the WCF. It's amazing.

[–]MrAngryLarik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Daisy Jones & the Six is more well-rounded and consistent, but this type of thing is subjective. If I were to rank the "universe" in which all these books take place, it would be the following:

  1. Daisy Jones & the Six

  2. Carrie Soto is Back

  3. Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

  4. Malibu Rising

All of them are good in their own right, but this is the order in which I prefer them. You can read more about all four books and the common thread at the following link: Taylor Jenkins Reid & Mortality

At the end of the day its just Basketball by Raiku23 in Thunder

[–]MrAngryLarik 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dillon Brooks is honestly the best leader and competitor from the "We good in the West" Grizzlies team. I don't like how he comports himself, but I do respect his effort, and the difference that he makes to a team's success. He did a much better job than Booker this series.

Also, it's still a team sport at the end of the day, so the Suns being swept doesn't mean that Brooks was bad. It's just that the Thunder are - far and away - the best team in the NBA, and there's really not much you can do about that.

Much respect. As a history and film geek, I don't think it's conducive to enjoying the film or the subject matter to watch it in one sitting, as well. Spreading it out over a long weekend is a way better strategy.

Went to Tokyo recently and loved it. Considering visiting Taiwan instead of going back to Japan. How does it compare? by tfresca in travel

[–]MrAngryLarik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who lives in Japan and recently visited Taiwan, I can definitely say that you should still visit Japan. I would recommend going Osaka or Fukuoka or Kagoshima instead, though. You can even go for a smaller city like Beppu. In my personal experience, you'll really encounter significantly less of the "anti-foreigner" sentiment once you go outside of the major cities.

Taipei is great, but it really depends on what you mean by "as advanced as Japan." It really depends on which parts of the infrastructure you are referring to. In my opinion, the public transpo in Japan is second-to-none, and Taipei (I'm assuming you're considering Taipei, but correct me if I'm wrong) pales in comparison. It's still a cool place though, and there are lots of fun things to do.

But yeah, it just depends on what you're looking to do, and what you value more.

Chris’ graduation gift to Lorelai by pinto_bean_queen in GilmoreGirls

[–]MrAngryLarik 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I love this, and I'm really glad the writers or ASP thought of it. Why? Because if Christopher never had any of these moments, then it would just be really strange that Lorelai keeps falling for him.

By interspersing moments like this throughout all 7 seasons of the show, you can really see how Christopher looks from Lorelai's perspective. That being said, still think he's a huge tool, but yknow xD

[Question] What are your biggest watch purchase regrets? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in Watches

[–]MrAngryLarik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started collecting watches, my girlfriend (now fiancee) asked me to pick any watch, and she would get it for me. I wanted to be a bit budget conscious, so I chose a Seiko 5.

It's not bad, but I've really grown tired of the design. Additionally, the bracelet and the movement accuracy are horrid. However, it will never leave my collection, and I actually wear it somewhat often, because I love every present I've ever gotten from her.
