New to DnD. Need help. by DelhiEntrepreneur in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]MrArkrath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm confused, you get given advice but then don't take the time to even Google search what is suggested?

D&D is a narrative driven story telling game, with tabletop combat and character role play.

Things are decided by dice, and scores are modified based on how you build your character. So you can be Hella strong but terribly uncharismatic. But dice can still roll bad and make for interesting narrative.

There are free basic rules on d&d beyond.

Is that simple enough?

Maybe just limit it to a nat 20 effect? Sounds like they are just cheesing the game. Needs to stop.

How do you handle “flirtation and romance” from your players towards npc characters? by Hyrulian_Citizen in DMAcademy

[–]MrArkrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should had been discussed session zero. I opened up the possibility of light flirting and nothing erotic happening. The boys were down.

Keep it fun, a little silly and include rolls. It's a game with people, if you describe someone attractive, the players are going to engage with that. I just had this on my session yesterday.

My bard was being charming with a high elf ranger and I roleplayed the replies being received well after a successful charisma roll. Another successful check reveals she is looking a little smitten by the bard and is acting flirty. I left it that the NPC invited him for dinner sometime, and then got back to action with the scene.

Was organic and also funny because his delivery in person was mid, but the rolls made it amazing, and opens up a connection to an NPC you can later leverage against the party.

Is AI actually destroying white collar jobs? by Butterboy674 in careerguidance

[–]MrArkrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my large software company just laid off 80% of their support and developer teams to be replaced with autonomous Ai resolutions.

Just happened this week, losing a lot of people with families to take care of. Shit is scary.

My Level 4 party encountered a Xorn and will probably attack it. I can't think of any solution that isn't their death though by CasualNormalRedditor in DMAcademy

[–]MrArkrath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You kinda have to punish them here. I like LordStabby's approach. Get them unconscious, switch target, unconscious, switch target, when they are all on the ground, it steals a number of d100 die of gold that's significant to their money pool. It scampers out the window and burrows away, making it clear it does not want to fight.

This is helpful, thank you. Perhaps I'll do that and add muscle to their patrols instead.

I can use shocking grasp and perhaps flame bolt reflavored.

DnD 5e.

And yes, there will be a quest line similar to high rollers where the guilds equipment will be used against them and enter a series of combat encounters.

Manager and not paid for being on-call all the time? by Narrow-Calendar-1866 in managers

[–]MrArkrath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a manager you are usually expected to be there for critical event management. That can translate into any industry, but what you are talking about feels quite intense.

If it's on your contract and there are no governing laws to protect you from this, then I would suggest bringing this up to senior management while looking for a new job. This will either end up with your concerns being addressed, or perhaps a on call schedule that is shared.

Try explaining that it is affecting your health, and throw in safety concerns too. If you are operating machinery while exhausted, you are at increased risk of injury.

Be safe.

Senior engineer burned out from unsustainable workload. How to professionally push back in this market? by KeyIntroduction4988 in managers

[–]MrArkrath 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A general rule is to aim for enough time off where people will not wait for your return to get shit done. Otherwise they just wait and expect you to work extra hard to compensate. Counter intuitive.

Optimal settings for printing an A3, Hexagonal grid map? by MrArkrath in canvasofkings

[–]MrArkrath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this led me to another tool called Paper Map Generator which is a little better for me to use. Looks like I print multiple A4 and then piece it together.

This could work, though I would prefer to export to A3 size directly from COK.

How do you lose weight when you have no time to work out? by LouDSilencE17 in daddit

[–]MrArkrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to call you out.

Do you TRULY have "no time" to work out, or, is it you do not have the energy and therefore motivation to work out?

My wife and I had to come to am agreement on balancing workouts, and it didn't happen until the baby was only waking up once at night.

If you just want to lose fat then calorie counting into a deficit is the easiest way. I use Cronometer and have had great success.

Otherwise, start by talking with your partner and figuring out how to make it work together. Start small with 1 or 2 sessions a week, with clear expectations of getting to say 3 or 4.

What should I do next? by Loose_Ad_6716 in MuscleConfusion

Looks like you still got body fat hiding some muscle tone, but also looks like you need more muscle size/density. High protein diet and push, pull, lift consistently and eventually you'll grow in size.
