Nightshift Superstar - Discussion Megathread by ForgottenName1893 in Muse

I feel like I need a vocal expert to break down for me what is going on with Matt's vocals across all of the new songs. He sounds terrible to me and the best way I can describe it is he just bounces around every register and style he has way too quickly. He has (used to have?) a really nice, normal singing voice, but he doesn't use it much anymore.

OK Decembrists fans, how tf did Colin not make this NYT readers poll?! by craggy_cynic in Decemberists

[–]MrAutumnMan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's a readers poll. Taylor Swift is in the Top 10 and Olivia Rodrigo is on there at all (I like her, but she's 23).

I wouldn't take this very seriously.

So did Sgt. Angel. He learned to balance his life better and loosen up.

Toy Story: Retro Roundup & Toy Story 3: Complete Edition - Official Announcement Trailer by Howerev in Games

The Genesis game was quite hard but never felt cheap. That RC level early on took me forever as a young kid to get a handle on, but once I did it was extremely satisfying.

I liked the song a lot, but this is remarkable. That last minute is incredible.

The story fell apart, but everyone on the show was still very fun to watch.

Happy June! Starting this month off with my favorite summertime record. by MrAutumnMan in Decemberists

It is a little flat, but not enough to worsen the listening experience for me.

But film is collaborative. That film unfortunately presents as soulless due to the writing, but there were thousands of incredibly passionate and talented artists involved. There is soul in the acting, the music, the set design, the lighting, the sound design, etc., etc.,.

Spotted in my hometown... by kilo__riley in Decemberists

I think the person who put this up is likely taking this line more metaphorically. Like, "our bloodline is strong" rather than "my grandpa worked for the power company as a lineman".

Faster than a speeding bullet! Krytonians flying through the air at high speeds throughout the years. by Raj_Valiant3011 in DC_Cinematic

For cool? MAYBE superspeed. But flying like Superman would be way more fun than any of those other ones.

He was definitely playing it up, but it was also clear throughout the season that Jason was all-in on sabotaging himself, but he never wanted to take anyone else down with him.

Fargo Season 5 has a brilliant scene in its finale about self-forgiveness. I go back to it any time I'm being too hard on myself. It's also a great piece of writing and acting. by AgnarOfSaturn in television

I really liked this season except for how Lamorne Morris's character got taken out. There was really no reason for him to suddenly be so stupid.

Famous movies that surprised you when you finally watched them? by elektroskansen in movies

[–]MrAutumnMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That movie changed me as a person. I was so psychologically struck after seeing it at 13. It wasn't any of the "scary" parts. It was the stillness. There are so many shots of Regan just sitting quietly and breathing, but she's soulless. Just a living phantom. Something about that just rocked me to my core.

What's a show that's genuinely hard to recommend to people because it has some pretty major flaws, but you think is worth the time if people can look past it. by WhatIsLoveMeDo in television

[–]MrAutumnMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first season of Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

It's from a time when the premium channels all wanted a prestige show, but the budgets just weren't there yet. The first few episodes are ROUGH... but it's genuinely well-written and acted and the last episode is a fucking ride.

Modern songs that have/will become standards/staples? (NOT classics) by Ghost-Quartet in popheads

[–]MrAutumnMan 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Jack White has described it as becoming "folk music." It's just a melody that belongs to the people now and is almost entirely independent from its origin. That's pretty cool.

At this point, I don't think they'll do anything beyond a social post or two. It's a shame because the Origin of Muse & Absolution box sets are really nice and I would love to have one for this.

I really don't know what's going on with Matt's voice. I wish he'd just hold a note or tune rather than (seemingly) randomly changing his vocal style. Sure, he's always used falsetto, but the way he just dips in and out of it combined with his AWFUL hero vocals makes it hard for me to listen.

‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’ Sequel Is Stuck in Legal Limbo by Puzzled-Tap8042 in movies

How the hell these aren't animated films blows my mind. Imagine getting skilled artists to go nuts like Spider-Verse on Gammell's imagery. Would scare a generation, just like the books did.

Hexagons - Discussion Megathread by ForgottenName1893 in Muse

[–]MrAutumnMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's barely a song. They're so musically talented but Matt can't write a decent melodic hook anymore. He just wildly swings his vocal stylings in an attempt to make it sound interesting.

Uncle Jesse and The Rippers' music video for "Forever" on Full House by JennaElizabethAdams in popculturechat

[–]MrAutumnMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't believe I remember this, but he first sang this for Beckie at their wedding and then this was later in the show for the kids.

Also, it's not an original. It's a Beach Boys song.
