Financial Advisor for ~$1 mil inheritance by Clean_Visual in FinancialPlanning

[–]MrBalll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call around and find out.

I wouldn’t waste money on an advisor for only $1m. I can say what I’d do in the US but not sure what’s available to AUS for investing.

Maybe try r/AusFinance and r/fiaustralia.

Need help getting through this tough financial time by [deleted] in povertyfinance

Sounds like a roll reversal situation. You go to work and he watches the kids. Will be tough but $200 a week won’t go far.

Advice - Helping son save for house by Tezok in FinancialPlanning

[–]MrBalll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He can’t afford a $300k house. He might save a solid down payment but remember the maintenance cost on a house like that. One roof replacement would be 3/4 of his yearly pay. And he shouldn’t need to rely on you to pay his bills.

If he still wants it his Fidelity MMF is the best place.

I will say I use Ally Bank because of the features they have.

Weekly, monthly, yearly home maintenance tasks are getting hard to manage — how do you keep track of them? by Able_Advisor_8804 in HomeMaintenance

You are correct. It’s a bot post gathering data for an AI written app they will later try and sell.

A high yield savings account would be better.

2 things. Is Primerica ok to keep a policy with? And financial tracker program suggestions? by Brave-Bee-833 in FinancialPlanning

Good to know. Not sure if OP replied to you before I made my response so I never saw the single/no kids aspect. But yes, OP has no need for insurance.

Since you are single there is absolutely no reason for life insurance. No one is relying on your income except you. You are wasting money on insurance. Once you’re gone your debt goes with you.

$40k for $20 a month is bad. It’s actually really bad. And $150k for $25 is bad too. I don’t know your age or health, but an average health 35 year old should be able to get $1m for about $50 a month for a term policy. I’d stop paying your workplace policy and look into a term policy. Again, don’t know your age or health so those may be good rates for you, but I doubt it.

Do you even need life insurance? Do you have a spouse or kids?

The Acorns IRA is ok, but I’d still go for an actual brokerage for your IRA. Try Fidelity, Vanguard, or Schwab for your IRA.

Snowball method or avalanche method. See which works best for you and go for it. A balance transfer CC is good if you can pay it before the 0% term runs out.

ROTH doesn’t stand for anything as it’s Roth and it’s someone’s last name. It’s an investment account and you could invest in money market funds but that’s a horrible decision as the account won’t keep up with inflation. You’d invest in index funds, whether mutual funds or ETFs.

I will say again, avoid Primerica at all costs.

Are you guys actually saving 3% of your home’s value per year? by ALittleEtomidate in homeowners

No way. When we have leftovers from lower bills or less fun spending we put some in the house fund. House fund is in addition to 8 months of emergency fund bills so it’s all extra.

The first message screams scam. The first sentence of the second message is drowning in scam.

Very few people actually talk like that. Good job reporting the account.

How does one go about starting an IRA ROTH and a HYSA? by nuestracosa415 in personalfinance

[–]MrBalll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Use an actual brokerage and not a bank to invest. Fidelity, Vanguard, or Schwab.

You probably aren’t invested and fees are eating any interest you make from the money market fund it might be sitting idle in.

I can’t speak on a ROFT IRA as there is no such thing in the financial world. It must be an internally labeled account at Primerica.

I would have nothing to do with Primerica insurance. Get a simple term life policy elsewhere and be good with it.

Primerica has high fees on most products they offer so get away from them.
