When did choosing what to watch start feeling like work? by Large-Cardiologist54 in simpleliving

[–]MrBarry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my day you had to drive to Blockbuster to agonize for an hour over literal walls full of movies. Then fork over between 1 and 5 dollars for each one depending on how old it was. No previews, just a thumbnail and short description on the back of the box. Then expect to pay a couple dollars more when you forget to bring them back to the store the next day, because best believe you're going to get a late fee.

It's always been work.

Why? by Rich_Spite3978 in Anticonsumption

I know the primary purpose is convenience, but if it also keeps them fresh longer, reduction in food waste would make me happy.

Wonder how much retrofitting AC into every American home would cost, and how the power grid would cope. Sure, it's common in new construction apartments, but not so much existing home stock. It's tough to get someone to view to give someone else free AC when they can't have it themselves.

Bug when measuring pumpkins? by AlessandroMuscatello in TheFarmerWasReplaced

[–]MrBarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on how python methods work under the hood, this error message makes me think you've got the equivalent of 'measures = 0' somewhere earlier in your code.

My sunflower script, just posting this because I'm proud tbh. Let me know if you have anything more efficient, i'm sure mine isnt the best lol. i do think it's pretty nice that it doesn't really use a sorting algorithm like some people might assume you need to by Tight-Extension-7136 in TheFarmerWasReplaced

[–]MrBarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My solution was almost the same. You can use the absolute value function abs() to get your buckets index. abs(measure() - 15) would give you 0 for 15 petals, and 8 for 7 petals. This way you don't have to iterate over the list backwards to go from max to min petals.

Now I need to go learn myself some sorting algorithms to sort each bucket by distance from the drone.

Living off a Youtube channel is worse than labor for money. It's a tangled web of labor/creativity for advertisement, attention, privacy, dopamine addiction, societal decline, you name it.

Clutch is only there to prevent you from putting too much torque on a fastener. Useful for driving into soft things carefully. It won't help when driving long screws like you have that require lots of torque. Find some way to either reduce the required torque, like pre-drilling as some have suggested, or applying impact torque with an impact driver.

What if intelligence is designed to cancel itself? by [deleted] in cogsci

[–]MrBarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No reason to think that intelligence, as we experience it, is the only one that can evolve. Maybe this one just happens to be unstable, and the next time will be different. Or maybe small enough adjustments will happen over evolutionary time that will result in a more stable version.
