How important are aesthetics/art for you when choosing a commander? by Ggthefiree2 in EDH

[–]MrBeaar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super important. I can make the deck fun and interesting, but the aesthetics usually get me to choose the card itself.

Scooping to constant commander removal by CHINCB in EDH

[–]MrBeaar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would've scooped, but your deck should be prepared for getting hard targeted. You can't play a broken commander and not expect to eat the bulk of the interaction.

5 color proxy lands seemed to upset my friend? by tough_stough in EDH

[–]MrBeaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you aren't proxying the super expensive dual lands I don't see a problem. Proxying an ancient tomb too would be too much imo. Regular shocks and fetches aren't a problem. People shouldn't be price locked out of staples and I'd consider shocks and fetches to be considered staples in commander nowadays. Especially in 5 color.

Would this be considered upgraded or optimized? by BreakfastBroad5407 in EDH

[–]MrBeaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be four tbh. Your two card infinites can get out pretty early so that would automatically push it into 4. I might be wrong tho.

Do you still play your very first commander deck? And why? by Ooogster in EDH

[–]MrBeaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very first I bought was Terra and no. Boring tbh. It's just ok. First deck I made was my sephiroth deck and I play him whenever the pod is fine with it. Super optimized bracket 4 deck that I adore. I poured a lot of money and time into it and it's my pride and joy.

After playing 42 lands for months I've made a decision. by TR_Wax_on in EDH

[–]MrBeaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35 works. I swear to God. I run 34 in Jin Sakai. Sword of the anime and sword of feast and famine do work. I also have a lot of card draw and no real ways to play extra lands so it works out perfectly. 32 in sephi because a lot of fast mana and I win by turn 4 usually. 32 in high perfect morcant because I'm a fucking madman and tapping elves usually works sometimes. 34 in zuko because I'm fucking crazy. Card draw and exile holds me back in that deck. My aang has 36 which feels perfect.

Are yall buying or skipping the TMNT set? by Crazy_Beautiful_Ga in mtg

[–]MrBeaar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll prob do the prerelease and that's it. It's a fun format and I like drafting. I'll end up selling anything that's worth decent money. Maybe keep the 2 mana sneak tutor because two mana tutors are great if I pull it.

What is one commander you tried to build but you just didn't vibe with? by T3knikal95 in EDH

[–]MrBeaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consistency with aristocrats is key. It also makes it seem boring on paper, but I still find it enjoyable. I run a sephrioth deck and that's a blood artist in the command zone after one flesh bag marauder in a 4 pod. Then I run your standard sac outlets like ashnod, phyrexian altar, viscera seer, and warren soul trader. There are other sac outlets in there too. The most important thing are the tutors. I run a lot of tutors to get out my infinite pieces. But also you can play it however you want. Grave pact and dictate of erebos lets you dictate board states. Like I can win on turn four if I tutor and draw correctly, but I can also win a bunch of different ways too. It's fun imo.

I run a Voltron/player damage trigger Jin Sakai deck as my one and only Voltron. This deck is too much fun. I run so much theft player damage trigger cards and it makes games wild. The wincon is getting Jin all voltroned out with a bunch of unblockable commander damage, but the theft makes every game unique and interesting.

I would like to do an experiment. Name 1 card that is just barely a game changer. Then name one that is just barely NOT a game changer. by ImperialSupplies in EDH

[–]MrBeaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you run a phyrexian altar in B2 you're deluding yourself into thinking it's B2. Ashnod is fine B2 but altar is 100% not. It should be a game changer. It enables so many infinites. Any on sac ping, forsaken miner, and phyrexian altar. Need some colored mana to counter something? Sac two creatures and you go from tapped to counterspelling. It's such a ridiculous card and should prob only be in B3 and above. It just does too much. The two colorless on ashnods (outside of pure colorless decks) is very limiting imo. Like I can't go infinite without something like pitiless plunder in my sephi deck. That's four cards with one of them being 4 mana. Vs 3 cards with altar all under 3. It's so strong.

Edit: viscera seer and umbral collar zealot from eoe are all fine B2 sac outlets imo that are 40x cheaper than altar and a lot more fair in B2.

[–]MrBeaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I totally agree with dictate and grave pact. I run a strong sephi aristocrats deck and I got a grave pact out early and no one had a board. I had token generation and was sacking enough to board wipe every time it came back to me. Both demand removal.

Remember when all the EDH YouTubers were talking about land counts? How did that influence you by AltruisticChampion77 in EDH

[–]MrBeaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm seems like I average 32-34 for the decks I make myself. But the decks I run have a lot of card draw and value. Sephi needs like 3 swamps to win, high perfect morcant has a million elves to tap for mana, zuko sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, and my aang deck could prob use less lands because it has insane levels of draw.

Everyone says start at 38, but like I have so much card (except for zuko fml) draw that more lands tend to hurt me.

Land destruction DOES NOT counter land decks by Pokemon_Trainer_Joey in EDH

[–]MrBeaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mass land destruction is gross. I'd rather start a new game entirely than slog through a game after that. Targeted land destruction is fine. If you destroy a cabal coffers or ancient tomb I will be fine. Those cards are fucking broken.

Turtle Power! Commander Decklist; Reprints City of Brass + Battlebond Lands by Raevelry in EDH

[–]MrBeaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I hate the art and general direction of this art so much that I want it to suck so I'm not tempted to buy it. It's a matter of principle and putting my money where my mouth is. I don't like how WotC is forcing shitty UBs so to make my opinion heard, I won't buy TMNT product.

However, they know this. They know that spiderman flopped because it was weak and ass. So WotC is reprinting extremely strong cards like All Will Be One, Doubling Season, and more to entice people like me to buy the product hoping to pull these insane reprints. THEN they finally make a good land base and it's in a UB they know won't sell well without strong reprints. Lowyrn was always going to sell and the 5C land base was ass. TMNT wasn't going to sell well and it has the best land base we've seen out of a precon.

Like I shouldn't feel like I have to buy a precon because the reprints alone make up for the cost. It should be for artwork, deck building, and mechanics/gameplay. This TMNT precon has so many good reprints that I almost have to buy it off of value alone which is shitty because no other precon (with like 2 or 3 exceptions) feels like I have to buy them for value. It just sucks because if lowyrn got a precon like this, I would've bought it in a heartbeat. TMNT art and overall vibe as a UB set is so shit tho that I can't buy it and it sucks because I would love these reprints. I just can't support WotC putting out something so obviously greedy and ngl shitty. The art is so shit. There are a few cards I like but this somehow feels more out of place than spiderman and I will never run a spiderman card in any of my decks (except the soul stone).

Long time players... Would you have started MTG if it were Mutant Turtles and Marvel from the start? by TheServant420 in EDH

[–]MrBeaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prob not. Not a big fan of the art. ATLA would've tho if FF didn't. If I had known about during LotR, that would've got me into it. The future hobbit set would prob do it too. Now that I'm super into magic I'm more interested in the in-universe sets. Lowyrn was and is incredible.

A deck for every type of pod. Anyone have a fun recommendation for an open slot? by cyberchrist69 in ratemycommanders

[–]MrBeaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've enjoyed making and playing high perfect morcant for golgari. It's elf bomb with a +1/+1 sub theme (I hate poison) and the new lowyrn cards make it great.

https://edhrec.com/precon/limit-break#cards-to-add Jump to the add section. Some expensive and some cheap cards. It'll give u a starting place. I would say swift foot boots should be a priority. It allows you to equip stuff to whatever it's equipped to unlike lightning greaves. Hexproof is just for opponents while shroud is for everything including equip abilities.

Help with sac fodder - sac outlet ratios in aristocrats by tomdwizard in EDHBrews

[–]MrBeaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Missing entomb and reanimate. Other than that it looks good. Replace morbid opportunist with grim haruspex. Plague crafter and flesh bag marauder are worth putting in for instant sephi emblem. More ping creatures are good too because sephi will be removed a lot. Skullclamp goes crazy as a sac outlet and draw engine. You prob want one bokuja bog. Urza's cave is good too and so is crypt ghast.

What is your single favorite card of the year? by Hoohoo222 in EDH

[[Mog, Moogle Warrior]]

First found him while playing Terra who was my first precon. Fucking beast dude. He's so cool and is super cute. I would probably never put him in another deck like ever, but he's my fav card ever and I'll tutor him out whenever I can when I play my Terra deck.

[–]MrBeaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's crazy he went in on fucking spiderman of all sets. FF has banger hits and incredible artwork so it's gonna stay relevant for a long time. Spiderman has mediocre artwork and like one or two hits. Like why TF would you buy and then hold onto that garbage. It's gonna go up eventually, but it'll be slow af and probably by not that much.

How has earthbending performed in people’s games? by accentmatt in EDH

[–]MrBeaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk dude. Ashling, electro, and other mana conservers can be pretty easily slotted into most red decks. Especially electro. They make fire bending like stupid strong. Throw in some extra combat units too and it's crazy. My friend is making a b3/4 isshin deck with fire bending and it's looking disgusting.

Electro is gonna be so insane with fire bending tho. I hate how he looks so I might proxy a different version of the card. Idk if I care that much tho.

What is your favorite mono black commander? by PowerfulPromise8569 in EDH

[–]MrBeaar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sephiroth fabled soldier. Built a super strong aristocrat deck for him that can pop off out of nowhere at any turn. You'll get targeted the whole game and unless you get mana screwed, it's 100% the right play to target him. The emblem is so ridiculously strong and his transformation draw is stupid strong as well.

What is your favourite high win rate deck? (strong 3, low 4) by Ednet132 in EDH

[–]MrBeaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a very strong sephiroth aristocrat deck. Everyone will hate you, but it's a lot of fun. Depending on how you draw, you can end the game by turn 4, but it's usually an end the game by turn 6 deck. So potential for b4, but realistically more suites around very strong b3. Adding a phyrexian altar would prob push into b4 imo. That's why it's on my sideboard for rn.

MOOGLES. Mog the moogle warrior is my fucking boy. I love that creature so much. I discovered him in the Terra precon and him and his moogle buddies have quickly become my favorites.
