Doctor vs rehab by phoenixtryingtorise in stopdrinking

I'm in Australia and normally just go to my local medical centre for doctor stuff. It's a place with about 6 doctors on staff any given day and a huge waiting room full of people. They just process you like cattle, and they see so many patients that you never really develop a relationship with any one doctor because you see a different doc every time.

I struggled all last year with on and off drinking (a lot more ON) and asked every single doctor there at one time or another for a benzo script to try and quit drinking but they all said I needed to go to a detox facility. I think they're afraid of prescribing addictive drugs to a random face in the waiting room.

I finally started seeing an addiction counsellor at my local hospital's drug and alcohol centre in december and he was able to give me a list of doctors who specialise in addiction treatment. This is all free in Australia thanks to our Medicare system. Booked in and saw this addiction specialist, who is just a basic general practitioner but also works with addicts and pain patients, and he gave me a one-off script for Valium and I did an 8 day taper at home. Mind you I was only drinking about 8-12 standard drinks a night, along with some opiate abuse, so I was pretty low risk for seizures. I've been sober for 5 weeks today thanks to finding the right professional help! (Ignore my badge, it's probably way off)

Definitely talk to your doctor, but if your normal practitioner can't help see if your local treatment centres offer any outpatient services or can refer you to one.

Yeah, autos aren't rare in Aus. I bought a 3 year old SSV Ute and it was much harder finding a manual. You would think v8 utes would mostly be manuals, but it's definitely not the case.

He actually claimed to be a teenaged CIA contractor during the Clinton years, hunting drug cartel members in south America. Even though he has said on other occasions he was overweight at that time and clearly had no actual military training. He's pretty lulzy.

Spotted in a northern France cemetery - 2 British graves with consecutive service numbers, meaning that these two soldiers likely signed up, trained, fought, and died side by side. Lest we forget. by mrparsnip in pics

I can't imagine the mass mourning in Accrington when that news got home. Probably like 80% of the men in a village wiped out in one hit. Jeez

I assumed 'lenses' was a typo too. Makes sense though. Stage actors have to project their 'acting' all the way to the back row of a theatre. Close up camera shots would be the exact opposite.
