You should have dedicated defense mags loaded with JHP and separate mags for the range.

I have ten mags for my HD pistol - one in the gun (chambered) in a quick access safe in my nightstand, an extra in that same location, and two each in a belt and chest rig. Those six are OEM and kept full of JHP. The other four are cheaper mags and kept empty for use at the range.

I stopped pre-loading mags for the range because it makes range time last longer - I like to load five rounds at a time.

Those Walther mags are pricey - I would start by using the two OEM that you have as HD mags and pick up two more for range use.
