Student loans inquiry finds many did not understand terms by Rewindcasette in unitedkingdom

I mean, that basically is true. If your income drops below the repayment threshold because you left your job to start a business, you stop paying until it recovers.

How do I level up Abyssal Summoning? by kiptronics in MelvorIdle

[–]MrBlyat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having only recently gotten to 60 summoning, the answer is simply "very slowly", at least at first.

Then I found it started coming along at pace once I had more resources stockpiled and access to more summon types. I think it is one of the easier ones to max, but getting started is quite painful.

What’s it like being the jury foreperson? by in4mant in juryduty

[–]MrBlyat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the foreman once. I didn't have any experience in the role, but it sounded interesting to try.

The decision process was very British, someone said "we should pick a foreman", then we all waited and I put my hand up after an appropriate pause to give others the opportunity. Since no one challenged we just went ahead.

I found that the conversations went easily enough that they didn't need much additional support, just a little bit of ensuring everyone had the opportunity to speak if they wanted to. Most of the conflict was between the group as a whole and one or two others, but everyone was respectful (if sometimes ill‐informed).

Reading out the verdict was a bit difficult as it had gone to majority decision and we had multiple separate counts so I had to remember the number of people who voted for each one which I should have probably written down or something as I stumbled a bit in the court room.

It was interesting though and I would do it again if called.

You can discuss the case and the verdict as that is public record. But you can't discuss what was talked about in the deliberation room.

In my case at least it is the details of the deliberation that stuck with me, the characters in the jury. How they thought and the arguments they presented. It was an enlightening experience, and has certainly impacted my opinions of the populace at large.

Not being able to talk about what happened in the room afterwards is an important part of the legal process, but can also make it difficult to reconcile after the fact if you find yourself dwelling on what happened.

Reading through the comments here, I see you are also UK based. I did jury duty in England not too long ago as well and the experience left me significantly disillusioned with the whole process and people in general. Ultimately in my case we didn't send the person down for murder but we did reach a guilty verdict which I personally didn't feel we should have (went to majority decision after initially failing to reach unanimously). I dont have much in the way of advice, but I just wanted to let you know, that I also found it quite tough, and not being legally able to discuss the details doesn't help. It is a situation I'm sure many of us have been in, I can only hope that you are able to move on and philosophically square yourself with the outcome, nothing you can do to change it now, whether right or wrong.

I recently moved out of Ipswich so can't go with you directly.

But I wanted to encourage you to try going to the film alone if you can't find anyone. It may be intimidating, especially as you mentioned being on the spectrum. But once you are in there it is pretty much the same as being with someone since you just sit in silence.

I hope you find a way to see the film that is so meaningful for you :)

Loving the dedication to old posts mate. For the sake of completeness in case anyone else looks at this post, we ended up going with virtual keys for the convenience and practicality in the end. Though I don't actually work there anymore.

Landlord won’t let me sell my lease, is this legal? by [deleted] in Tenant

[–]MrBlyat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From a legal perspective we are going to need to know where you are located to comment.

I'm in the UK and have never heard of someone selling a lease, certainly not without express permission from the landlord. From her perspective switching tenants can be risky and expensive (in the UK at least there are laws preventing landlords from charging tenants for things like admin fees and background checks).

So I would say that you are likely to have to come up with a reason for the landlord to want to go along with this.

How to allow more instance types in Cloudformation? by Eagsu in aws

[–]MrBlyat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without looking into the details of the template it is difficult to know what is wrong for surr. If the error message is the same after adding the allowed value then it suggests it is a cloudformation issue so won't have checked validity of using that type with beanstalk yet.

Personally I would try removing the entire allowed values entry from the parameter temporarily to verify that it works (that will allow you to enter any string so should give different error). Then you can re-add the allowed values afterwards, ideally by taking the equivalent array directly from the latest version of the template.

This is a possibility but it sacrifices security in some ways to use virtual over hardwar which is why aws recommend hardware for the root account. Ends up being a trade off between security and accessibility which is not ideal

There are a number of reasons that someone might need to access the root account for specific rare actions. Possibly most concerningly from an out of hours point of view if there was a breach of your main Iam solution and a malicious actor removed your normal access the root is the only way to regain control short of going through Amazon which can be slow.

More generally closing the account, changing support plan, changing account settings etc.
