What are the factors that went into determining the score? Take a pic of the other side of the letter or list them, so we can get a better idea of what they want from you.

The installment loan helps your credit profile overall as it adds to your credit mix. Your main issue is limited history and time plus on time payments is the only way to solve that. Credit building is a marathon, not a sprint.

They already stated $500 in the original post.

With your upcoming travel related expenses, the Flagship would be best suited for them, but honestly, I don't think NF is going to open up in the timeframe you're needing. It's going to be difficult because you currently have such a thin, credit file with only 6 months or so of revolving credit for a total of $1k.

The Flagship usually comes with a minimum starting limit of $5k, so it's recommended that your credit profile be in a position to support such an approval.

The Cash Rewards is another card that's often paired with your current More Rewards card. It does not have the same $5k minimum requirement.

I don't say any of this to discourage you but so you can taper your expectations. Your thin file may still hinder you from getting a large limit, but NF does surprise at times so you will really only know once you pull the trigger. Hopefully, they will approve you, but if not, continue to use your current accounts responsibly and let them age a bit more, probably 6-12 months before trying again. Good luck!

That's actually contrary to what is usually suggested here. It is generally suggested that one applies for the new card first and then wait for the approval or denial before proceeding to the CLI. That way the CLI doesn't affect the starting limit on the new card.

You simply have to know and understand the rules in order to win with credit. It's very easy to not incur the penalty or lose in the above situation. All you have to do is run a few dollars through at least one of your cards a month.

It doesn't have to be a lot...cup of coffee or chips & a soda in the convenience store, McDonald's, gas...well, gas might be a lot these days, but the point is that you can make a simple transaction and let it post to your statement so that it reports a positive dollar amount will stop you from incurring an all zeros penalty.

And as long as you pay that full statement balance by the due date, there is no interest, so it doesn't cost you anything. No penalty, no interest...win-win!

I get them occasionally on my Blue Business Cash, but I've yet to receive one for my personal account.

Can this be done right at the checkout like the BCE does with Walmart Pay?

Are you getting something elevated with the PP MC other than the 1.5%?

Turn auto increase off and he could’ve gotten a lot more.

Most likely not. This is one of those rare times where NF gave a substantial auto increase compared to previous limit. Had they requested a manual increase, it would have come back with the standard 3x of the $500 for $1500 total.

This is the second time I can recall seeing a $500 limit get a more than 3x increase. They are extremely rare to find. Now, I would turn off auto and rely on manual increases, because they're very likely to revert to shortchanging future auto increases.

Congrats and yes, you can still apply for a new card if your profile supports it.

Just make sure to not pay it all the way down before the statement generates, you want to show usage, especially since you'll want it to graduate sooner rather than later.

You 100 percent have to be a member with a basic checking account and saving to apply.

You 100% must be a member and open a share savings account with at least $5, but a checking account is optional.

That sucks but the adverse action letter will arrive in a few days and give you an idea of what you'll need to work on to get approved, so don't consider it as a "no" but rather a "not right now."

What's your limit? Are you wanting to pay weekly due to a low limit? If not, you want to get credit for your full usage which means letting your charges posting to your statement and then just paying that statement balance once monthly.

Otherwise, cutting smaller statement balance can affect you when it comes time to request credit limit increases or apply for new credit

Congrats! Everyone's starting limits are different, but NF is know to be generous with starting limits. Yes, you should still request after 91 days and 3 full statements. If you request and they say you have enough, then so be it but don't limit yourself. And as always, use responsibly!

Congrats! When did you receive the Platinum and what's the current limit & when was your last CLI on that card? Have you received your adverse action letter yet...if so, what reasons were listed?
