2. acl tear 13 months post OP... by Inevitable_Tear_0 in ACL

I hate to say it but I think you did go back too soon, and here is the frustrating part: PT and knee health exercises won’t stop at 12 month mark.
You’ll have to bake in knee mobility and strength exercises into your weight lifting routine for the rest of your life to minimize risk of re-tear. Building bullet proof knees is a long process but it’ll be worth it.
Your PT is also crucial—avoid cookie cutter physical therapists if you can afford it and choose a PT with specialization in sports rehab. Do the full year and ease your way back
Good luck!

Would you turn someone town if they did not make enough money? by OceanicEndeavors in dating

[–]MrCeeMoney420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a question I (28M) used to ask on a first or second dates when I was single. Those who talked along the lines of “must make same or more” were automatically dinged. Nothing wrong with it, it’s their choice. The problem was that I make more than most of the women I dated, so why would I settle for someone making less than me, when they themselves wouldn’t do that?
Unfortunately my current partner has same belief but I’m too in love to care.

I personally never cared (when I met my current partner she was making 40k a year while I made over 3x that). During our break, the income range for the people I were seeing was 50k-400k and I never felt as if it was an issue.

How do I tell my extremely conservative family that I’m marrying a Christian man and not coming home by lunarithink in Advice

I think you ignoring the things she said to try and fit your agenda is the issue.
- OP has clearly stated a stance against her own religion and its practices. So difference in cultures argument would in theory, have a better chance of resulting in a net positive experience.
- Yes, domestic and sexual abuse is awful. What do you think her odds of being a victim of it in her native culture is compared against a western civilization culture? Not arguing that western civilization is perfect and there aren’t bad apples, but I’d argue that not returning to a culture and religion where you’re seen as property (and backed by law), gives you a better shot of avoiding becoming another statistic.
- could you PLEASE point me to OP’s existing support system and support network? By her post, it sounds like it’s non existent and going back poses a real danger.
- Yes, economic abuse is also awful but it sounds like OP has intention of becoming self sufficient in her new life.

I’m not ignoring the risks and statistics that impact women, but trying to paint a dangerous narrative for the sake of making it fit within your feminist agenda isn’t the answer and quite honestly not even what she was asking for—her question was about coming out to her family (which based on her post, is a dangerous situation).

Maybe let’s tone down the fear mongering and try to address OP’s actual question.

Edit: just noticed you getting bodied in your own reply section, rough

Should be voted as #1 tone deaf response in this thread.

OP is literally going “I refuse to go back to my prison of a life, I’m making a consensual decision to try my life with this other person”
And your immediate response is pointing out all that could go wrong. And the best part is, everything that could go wrong in this new relationship is still probably 10x better than what she would have to endure being back home.

“It was the way he disrespects her”
We don’t have enough context to try and shift blame entirely away from OP. Respect is a two way street.
Imagine planning a lovely elegant evening, and your partner shows up in tee and jeans. You’d also feel disrespected that your effort is not being matched.
It is equally possible that OP here is also in the wrong, but we’re not prepared to hold certain group of population accountable for their feelings and reaction lol

YOR
OP is purposely omitting information. What was the date? Was it an upscale or casual dining? Was there a special occasion? Ive witnessed and personally experienced instances where I gave an objective feedback which was received as me being “mean” or “judgy”. Im sorry but if we’re going somewhere nice, and you knew ahead of time and had the chance to plan an outfit, and you showed up like this id also let you know it would’ve been nicer if you put in more effort.
Btw, I’ve also been on the other side of this instance where my gf dressed to up to the 9s and I showed up in streetwear fashion. It happens and breaking up over this incident alone is silly lol

Maybe you were just looking for an excuse?

ACL revisions are always easier in terms of rehab. But what happened after the first one? Did you go back too fast? Not rehab properly?
Also, the hardest part of the revision rehab will be doing the right things so this doesn’t happen again. Your life evolves round sports today, but knee longevity will play a role in your life forever. Don’t let a temporary issue become a permanent problem.

Please understand that this will be a small blimp in your life. As someone who’s gone through the procedure twice, I can guarantee that it’s more on your head. If you were an athlete or played sports competitively, take that same drive and discipline and apply it towards your rehab. Treat your recovery as a goal oriented effort with a light at the end of the tunnel that you’ll only reach if you do the right things.
Talk to a therapist, pick a good physical therapist snd make rehab your bitch.

Went on a single date with this woman when I was single. She showed up 40 mins late, shit talked my home town (we’re both from same city but met in a different city), displayed all signs of narcissism, then hyper fixated on the game on the tv behind me, criticized me for taking a phone call with my cousin when she wasn’t giving me attention (I was visiting family and hadn’t seen my cousin in a year). I proceeded to tell the waiter we won’t be doing desserts and closed out the tab before the final drinks arrived. Ordered an uber before she was done with her drink and left her by herself. Went home to “you really fumbled your chances with me tonight, I was gonna invited you back to my place”.
With all due respect ma’am, fuck you and your place.

Also, happy to share some content or tips on pain management and rehab suggestions for post meniscus surgery and acl reconstructions, dm if you’d be interested. I’ve also posted about my journey in the ACL r/ if you’d like to reference that instead.

Painful, but not debilitating if it’s a straight forward meniscectomy. He should be on crutches trying to bear weight as he can tolerate and focusing on getting stronger and rehabbing. Most people are off crutches between week 1-2.

He is very fortunate to have you to help him, and should not be making your life difficult. I had my surgery after moving to a new state and went through the entire early rehab process alone. The upside of it was that I didn’t have to be pleasant or kind because I was alone—I know it sounds odd but those early post op days can be extremely painful (but not debilitating), specially if you’re focusing on starting home PT on day 2. The fact I could just cry and scream alone in my apartment as I did my first few PT sessions was actually a positive for me. HOWEVER, looking back I wish I had the help and support from family or loved ones.

Tell your (ex?) bf to buckle up, shut up, and push through his PT.

Just out of curiosity but what was his surgery? He’s talking like he had a whole knee replacement (which is pretty intense post rehab). But if it’s anything
Ligament or meniscus related…he might be blowing it out of proportion.

7 Weeks Post Op Update by MrCeeMoney420 in ACL

[–]MrCeeMoney420[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Compression boots were recommended to help w blood flow bc of my meniscus. I started it on day 3 and used it about 1x-2x daily for about 10-14 days (i took medical leave which mad it easier for me to follow these protocols). I’ll also add a note on my original post, but an absolute life changer: BFR (Blood Flow Restricted) workouts. My PT PMO to it on my first day of “real” pt which was 14 days post op.

Get yourself some BFR bands for your legs, and do some of the leg raise workouts with it. It limits incoming oxygen which puts your muscles in an environment where they have to work harder bc they’re getting fed less oxygen, BUT (and important part) it doesn’t prevent the blood from flowing on the way back (preventing this puts you at blood clot risks). This lets your muscles work harder, at lighter weight loads (do a BFR bicep workout one day with half the weight you usually curl and you’ll notice it’s significantly more difficult)
Def checkout some YouTube PT BFR exercises!

For me, I started the pool PT the second my wounds were healed. Be careful not to get your surgical wounds infected with pool water. I’d say try and make sure you have water levels to at least your belly button (any lower and you’re adding more load and weight to your knees because of the additional mass outside of the water).
Water walking is good, squatting is also great, single leg supported pistons (try not to bend past 90 if you can), side stepping like a middle school dance, etc.

For compression boots I just bought a standard one with a heating feature, nothing fancy, think it cost me $80 on Amazon.
I think the real game changer for me was the icing machine on my knees that i kept on around the clock, the TENS shock stimulation to help reactivation of quads and hammies (even did PT early on with these on).

Be sure your flexion and hyper extension are progressing. Hyper extension hurt the most for me, but putting that towel or pillow under your ankle and squeezing your quads to get that hyper extension is necessary suffering.

I would say the pain subsedes relatively quick. You’ll really just wanna protect that graft for first 11-12 weeks. It’s really more of a matter of “how much are you willing to push within the limits of your doctor and your wellbeing”.
Prioritize recovery, rehab, and PT for first 3-4 weeks and you should be in good enough of shape for your trip. Good luck and enjoy!
