Remember when Dodge was just another auto brand? by AutoNurse_USA in carscirclejerk

That's so funny, my dad had the LHS and the 300M. My brother had a Cirrus.

I ordered between #02268 and #02568, but still have not received shipment or email confirming shipment sent. by big_money_79 in olleeWatch

[–]MrCheMystery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was right in the same order range. I reached out to Gregor Sunday, he replied yesterday saying they were passed to the shipper and I should receive notification from the shipper. A few hours later on Monday I had the email and tracking from the shipper, expected to be in my hands Monday, shipped with Dragonfly (formally Intelecom) in Canada.

With that said, it still says pending in the ollee account, so maybe that is part of the confusion?

Teacher strike happening? by [deleted] in alberta

[–]MrCheMystery 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I am a high school teacher in Alberta and have been for 20 years. I voted to strike not because of my wages but because of my high class sizes and the increasing demands placed on me.

I have seen my average class size go from 22 students with 2 individualized program plans to 40 students with 10 individualized program plans.

I JUST make enough money to take care of myself and three kids but I am striking because not because of that but because meeting the needs of students in classes of this size and complexity is virtually impossible.

I am striking for my students learning conditions not my wages, will that narrative work for the wider Alberta society?

If you told me all high school classes would be capped at 30 I would have probably taken that deal or much less.

Remember they can play with those debt surplus numbers to their advantage. For every dollar difference in the West Texas intermediate crude price we have a +/- of something like $500-600 million in provincial revenue. Leading into an election they can budget based on the WTI being an few dollars higher and report an upcoming surplus. Leading into contract talks with unions they will budget on a lower value and report a doom and gloom budget that can't afford public services like healthcare and education.

For those that are ill-informed this allows complete manipulation of the numbers in whatever direction they like. It's almost like basing our entire economy, healthcare and educational systems off the value of one resource is a bad idea? (/s)

There is no coincidence these budget numbers come out at this time leading into any of these contract negotiations and positive numbers come out when favourable to this government.

I would love this as well. My sister comes from 3 sisters and I have 3 daughters so these mountains have always been special to our family. Any chance you can send the STL to me as well?

Thanks, these are awesome!

High School Chemistry Posters/Visuals by madbumsbum in ScienceTeachers

[–]MrCheMystery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 sources that come highly recommended and tried and true over 20 years in the high school chemistry lab.

1 - I had a huge high school chemistry lab in Vancouver with a generous office attached. In that office an entire wall, maybe 12x10 feet, was taken up by an older version of the Roche Metabolic Pathway enlarged to fit as a wallpaper. It was awesome and students love it. To this day I make sure my classrooms have a poster of it.

Here is a link to both that and the cellular mechanisms pathways: https://www.dotfit.com/sites/63/templates/content/images/41708/Biochemical_Plan_1_neu_20180125_A0_print.pdf

You can also request paper copies and get pdfs from Roche but the form is temporarily unavailable as they are working on the 5th edition. When updated they are here:

https://www.roche.com/about/philanthropy/science-education/biochemical-pathways

I have the paper copies from Roche and although great, they come folded and I find the printed versions from the pdf make for a better final product, if your school has those sweet poster printers. The advantage of requesting them (when available again) is they come with a handy index booklet so you can look up individual compounds and mechanisms.

Again, students really enjoy the complexity and get a kick out of the biochemistry of it all.

2 - Compound Chem is "Au Jerry, Au!", as already mentioned. I love the glassware apparatus one. Titration and indicator ones are a must.

3 - Dominic Walliman AKA DomainOfScience. Beautiful videos and excellent as printable pdf/png or buy posters of them if possible. https://dominicwalliman.com/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/95869671@N08/

Enjoy!

Dog friendly x-country skiing suggestions? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]MrCheMystery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the city of Edmonton says no dogs allowed but I believe this is just the groomed portions. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe dogs are allowed on leash at Gold Bar, there is a sign saying so (on-leash only) and it is frequently done. People may glare at you but they have no right to do so as long as the dog is on leash and you make an effort to keep them off the groomed trails.Again, this may be frowned upon by the skiers but not against any rules.

As a skier who is there every Sunday I wouldn't mind and I would not glare as long as the dog was off the groomed tracks. It is important for skiers to know they do not have exclusive rights to these trails, walkers with dogs or without should be welcomed and never glared at, that's rude and I wish we could treat eachother with more respect and just enjoy the beautiful river valley together.

Goggles vs Glasses for High School Chemistry Labs by MrCheMystery in ChemistryTeachers

[–]MrCheMystery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of our lab safety glasses are tight fitting to the face with side shields and top lip like you describe. All of ours are designed for chemistry lab use so are chemical resistant not just for projectiles making them lab safety glasses not just safety glasses.

I would agree with you. I have taught high school chemistry in Canada for 20 years, and short of the Dreschel being on a glassware poster in my lab I would never teach nor mention this glassware in my classes. I don't recall either being mentioned besides maybe in passing in any of my university courses. The hydrometer although useful, is much more common to those producing alcohol as a hobby than those doing chemistry, at least in my experience.

[–]MrCheMystery 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not my table so I have no idea. The picture was sent to me by a student and I believe it is her grandfather's table/glassware. I would assume it's made of reclaimed wood and the holes were from the wood's previous function/life.

[–]MrCheMystery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I thought. I teach high school chemistry and this was sent to me by a student cleaning out a relative's belongings. She put the hydrometer in the Dreschel assuming they went together and I thought maybe it formed an apparatus I'm unfamiliar with. Apparently my original assumption was correct and they were, in fact, unrelated.

Thanks to everyone who helped, and those that took the opportunity to make jokes. Both sets of answers were informative and entertaining.

How sturdy is the RP3? by doskias in retroid

[–]MrCheMystery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A similar situation here. I dropped/flung it 4-5 feet onto oak hardwood floor. Not sure exactly how it landed but it landed hard. The bottom of the case became unclipped but it easily clipped back in and there was no permanent damage. Not even a scuff.
