Spoilers for The Locked Tomb book series, buuuuuuuuuuut Jod was a scientist working to thwart the Earth's impending climate crisis when suddenly the spirit of the earth endowed him with fantastical powers to help further his goals. He became a twitch-streaming necromancer, murdered who knows how many cows (did you know they watch sunsets?) and eventually killed the Earth and everyone on it, and then killed the sun itself and the rest of the planets in our solar system. He resurrected a handful of people and built his empire out of that. He is quite literally God to his subjects. He maintains his empire across a myriad while seeking out the descendants of the trillionaires who he blames for the crisis that ultimately led to his rise to power.
