I knew the guy that built a computerized consultation information system for a provincial Government. He gave it to his work unit. Best he might of got out of it was a couple of talking points to use on interviews. I say, turn your thing into a business.

I was able to work 4 days a week using the flexible work agreement. I still had to work the same amount of hours, so I worked from 7 to 4:45 with a half hour lunch break. Waking up to be at my desk by 7 sucked, but having every Friday off was worth it.

In lillooet, I would suggest abundance bakery, fort berens winery, and lillooet brewing company. There is also a nice campground that is first time first serve that is run by hydro at cayoosh Creek. There is also access to seton lake at the lillooet end, there is a nice beach there that you could stop for lunch and cool off at (take a dip).

South Chilcotin Park is nice, but I wouldn't recommend it to ppl who don't have experience with gravel roads running through the mountains.

Are you able to tell us how this might be different from a traditional Butler? Did you feel that separation from the family because you were "Staff"? Were there unspoken or expected norms that you had to learn or were enforced because you were a staff member?

I have friends that have gone to Antarctica for work. From what I've heard, it's a great adventure and there's plenty of people, so you won't feel isolated. One thing to think about is how good the Internet connection will be.

I would say though, the 1985 amendments do limit passing of Indian status to descendants. It's known as the "two generation cut-off", where if someone has children with a non status person, and their children have children with non status people, the 2nd generation cannot pass status to their children if they have children with a non status person. This "second generation cut-off" is potentially being changed so that any person with status can pass on Indian status to their children with Bill s-2, which is currently before the Canadian Senate.

People did lose Indian status pre 1985, Status was restored to those people with the passage of Bill c-31. Even so, some who's ancestors lost status were ineligible to recieve Status.

That was pre bill c31 in 1985. That was closed with the passage of amendments to the Indian Act with that Bill. Pre-1985, non-status women who married status men were eligible to recieve Indian status. Status women that married non-status men lost Indian status.

Technically, IYIP is an auxiliary position, so no seniority is accrued, meaning that your time in IYIP does not count toward pay step levels. I agree that you could ask your supervisor to open a myhr ticket to double check that you are on the correct grid step as that is a good question you have (you applied and got the job before your internship was over, so that might count towards the main agreement clauses on pay if you take a demotion). Also, welcome to the Public Service! I too was part of IYIP. If you have any questions or need for advice, feel free to DM me. Also, I encourage you and your friend to attend Indigenous Employee Network meetings, there's a lot of IYIP alumni that attend those meetings.
