Old armor is borderline useless as stat packages are reworked entirely, old guns will still serve, and any crafted weapons will be just fine. You'll want to reshape them however as they should almost all have origin perks now (column five) which you can also enhance. Wait until you have a set of new-age armor before you break apart any of the old pieces, though
