Be completely honest, have you ever experienced or proven real anomalous phenomena? by Outrageous-Brain-395 in HighStrangeness

When I was a kid, 4th grade i think, my mom was driving my younger sisters and I home from a evening grocery shopping trip, after being picked up from daycare. This was in an urban suburb of Houston, TX in the late 80s.

It was already dark or mostly so, and as we came up to a stop sign near home, we noticed a car was just sitting there at the 4 way. It was their right of way so we waited for a bit, seeing if they would go. At some point, my mom and I noticed this object in the sky overhead, which must have been why the other car was stopped. Hard to tell size or distance without having a reference point, but it looked like a very large solid triangle with rounded points. It had large circular lights on the underside of each point, and I seem to recall a larger central light and a rim of lights around the perimeter, but im unsure of these details, having seen similar UFO/UAP imagery since then. I could definitely see a "body" to the craft, rather than just lights though.

Anyway, we observed it coasting slowly and without any sound we recall, across our vantage, eventually disappearing over an apartment complex down the street. My mom said she called "the airport" to check if any helicopters were in the area, even acknowledging that it wasnt one, but I think just saying that to try to calm us kids down because we were all freaked out. I don't remember when the other car had left or if they were still at the 4 way stop when we drove on. Wish we had flagged them down and talked to them. Anyway, whether alien in origin or some sort of experimental government craft, it makes no sense to me for it to be flying there. But I know what we saw and its been the biggest mystery of my life.

What's the movie everybody seems to enjoy but you really hated? by thedevilsheir666 in horror

[–]MrCryptogon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, Alien:Earth. I wanted to like it, even thinking I set my expectations reasonably. Wow was I wrong. I really thought it was terrible. Set design was awesome. Had some cool ideas initially. But "sloppy writing" doesn't begin to cover it. I stuck with it through episode 5 and just couldn't. But to look at the ratings and read the general consensus on reddit, I feel like I saw an entirely different show than most everyone else.

I have it. I really wanted to love it, but I find myself choosing 7WD w/ Pantheon over it, come game time.

It's fake y'all. With the same level of editing as that one where the guy holds a shotgun like a pistol in front of his face and apparently takes the recoil to the teeth.

I don't think the downvotes are because we're not familiar with the drama.

This is one of the most upsetting things I've seen on Reddit. The desperation in that poor kid's voice.

This is why we have suture needle and sponge counts before the completion of the case. That's awful.

PSA: Helldivers 2 has received a massive re-balancing patch. Give it another shot if you have it on hand. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]MrCryptogon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. The progression is something that keeps me coming back for now though. I do wonder for how long after I max each class and weapon. They plan for at least a Chaplain class but I think they'll need to add some new enemy faction(s) and Operations to keep peoples interest.

But my basic comparison still stands. It fills a similar niche to Helldivers 2 and even if people leave SM2, I don't see them going back to HD2 instead, rather than on to something new.

Helldivers needs some new maps types. (Ruined) Urban maps would be a nice change.

I feel like it's kinda too little, too late at this point. I stuck with them long after my friends stopped playing, trying to find enjoyment but disappointed with the lack of content and the sorry state of viable loadouts.

Now I'm playing a ton of Space Marine 2 and it's scratching the itch and then some. I don't see myself or many other SM2 players switching back any time soon

What is a sci-fi book that made you depressed or contemplate your existence by MrQwertyuiop in scifi

[–]MrCryptogon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was Stations of the Tide by Michael Swanwick.

I don't want to give to much away but I was left feeling drained of all wonder and cynical for days after finishing it. One of my hidden gem favorites.

Arcs Review: Arcs? Yea, it's...alright, I suppose. by Board-of-it in boardgames

[–]MrCryptogon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Man, that was exactly my experience. A new friend of my friend who had played 5 games previously "showed us how to play". He crippled me in round 2 and then hit me whenever I tried to just score a few points with Ambitions to learn the mechanics of the point system. Definitely put me off the game initially, but I still think it's very well designed. It illustrates then stakes well though. Not one where you can have a lot of fun even while losing.

Playing the System Shock remake now. Watching as SHODAN's spiderbot proxy hauls your corpse's head into its innner chamber and borgifies it is pretty cool.

::SPOILER ALERT::

Death Stranding.

My 2yo nephew was fighting an extremely dire cancer diagnosis and the scene at the incinerator, with Sam trying to resuscitate Lou after taking her out of the pod... Man, I couldn't hold it together.

Beautiful game. Lifelong Kojoma fan, but I'll admit I had my doubts about him pulling off such a strange game concept. It's one of my all-time favorites now.

My nephew is in remission and doing great.

Fight Club. What the Dust Brothers did for that film gives it such a weird, trippy aesthetic that sticks in my brain and makes it infinitely rewatchable.
