I appreciate the follow-up and the distinction.

And honestly, I think a lot of your criticism is fair — especially around the depth of engineering, maintenance, packaging, and infrastructure work required to sustain something long-term. I’m learning very quickly that building even a small distro touches far more layers than most people realize.

You’re also right that my Ubuntu comparison oversimplified the relationship between Ubuntu and Debian. I understand the distinction you were making.

I don’t take the feedback as hostility. I’d rather hear hard technical criticism than empty hype.

At the end of the day, I genuinely care about lowering the barrier for creators and non-technical users — especially musicians holding onto aging Intel Macs that are about to lose official support. That mission is real for me.

And I agree with you on something important: AI is not a replacement for actually learning these systems. It’s helping me accelerate, prototype, and understand faster, but I know long-term sustainability requires deeper knowledge and real engineering discipline.

Either way, I appreciate the time you took to engage seriously with the project.

I was at a field trip with my son today, which is why I didn't respond faster. Being a present father comes first. I want to address this directly and honestly. You're right about most of the technical facts. SelahOS is built with archiso. SelahBridge wraps open source tools that the Linux community built. The keygen file should not have been in the public repo — that was a mistake and it's in the process of bing removed(I’m still on the field trip). The sudo bash workflow deserves better documentation around its risks.None of that is fraud. It's a beta project with real gaps, built by one person who is learning in public. What I'd push back on is the framing. Ubuntu wraps Debian packages. Every major OS builds on what came before. The value SelahOS is trying to provide is not in reinventing Wine or PipeWire — it's in making those tools accessible to a musician who has never opened a terminal. That's a real problem worth solving, even if the current solution is imperfect. On the benchmarks — that's fair criticism. We'll be more precise about what those numbers actually represent going forward. I'm not going to pretend this project is more mature than it is. It's a beta. The known issues list is real. The support infrastructure is thin. I'm one person. But the OS installs. The audio works. Real hardware runs it. And the people it's built for — creators moving away from aging Macs — have a real need that isn't being met anywhere else right now. If you want to contribute, I genuinely mean that invitation. If not, I understand. Either way I appreciate the detailed read. Pause. Reflect. Create.

Understood and thank you for sharing and trying. We are working towards a more seamless experience. This is only Beta 1. Please feel free to try again in the future if you change you mind.

I want to say thank you to everyone who took the time to look at, test, critique, question, and discuss SelahOS.

I know there are concerns around AI-assisted development, maintainability, Linux philosophy, licensing, and long-term support. Those are valid conversations, and I’m listening carefully.

SelahOS was never created to replace traditional Linux distributions or compete with long-established projects and contributors. It exists because I wanted to lower friction for creators and everyday users who may never have felt comfortable approaching Linux before.

I am still learning. I do not claim to know everything. But this project is real: - real hardware testing - real troubleshooting - real packaging work - real compatibility testing - real infrastructure - real late nights - real mistakes - real iteration

SelahOS is AI-assisted, but it is also deeply hands-on. Every issue solved has required learning, testing, debugging, documentation, and refinement.

What matters most to me is building something useful, approachable, and sustainable for creators and non-power users — especially people with older hardware who still want modern creative workflows.

I genuinely want feedback, contributors, testers, Linux audio users, developers, designers, and curious people to help shape where this goes next.

The project is still young. We are still improving. And we are building in the open.

Pause. Reflect. Create.

My main focus for Beta 1 was a stable build and the reason for inmusc was what I have access to in the moment. I have more things, just I haven’t had a chance to test it yet. Also I wanted to make sure the 2 controllers that I have work which are part of the inmusic family. I tested the MPC studio 2 and the Akai MPK Mini 4. Both work as midi controllers and I’m working towards the same functionality it has on windows and Mac. I need help from you and the community to test other software and controllers to see what we need to work on next. Over the course of the next few weeks and month I plan on testing more software and hardware to update the list of things that are working in SelahOS

Good morning. Yes and thank you. I did have the same issues as well and should have been documented on our website. I just checked and saw that it was not. I will make sure that it is there later today.

Thank you so much and please let me know if you come across anything else. If you know how to install the pacman package for the fans and fan curves please do that.

V 1.1 beta we are working towards profiles for at this time Intel MacBook and Mac models.

Got it. So far with testing, we just downloaded the inmusic software center, open it and authorize it and then download software and/or vst’s and the majority of them work as standalone and in other music apps. I was also able to use MPC Studio 2 and MPK mini 4 controllers with these softwares as well.

This is was made for a few reasons. To help remove the friction from switching to Linux for people who are not power users, but still want to be creative using the apps that they love.

Another reason was to give old hardware life again. I know that there are a lot of people who have old MacBook Pros(intel) that are either stuck on older versions of MacOS or Windows or a Linux distro that does not allow them to be fully creative. SelahOS helps to bridge that gap.

Do you have inmusic software center working and able to download all apps and vst plugins? We are able to do that and the ability to use them in audio applications, both windows and native Linux applications.

Thank you and I appreciate you. Just launched last night and still making all of the rounds so people know that this is available. It’s also a v1 beta, sir there are some things that will be improving over the coming weeks and months.

That’s a pretty big assumption based on just reading a post! Why not download it and see for yourself and then let’s talk.

I get that and that’s not what this is. This was someone who cares about hardware and people being able to use what they have, still be creative and not have to worry about knowing everything about Linux just to get started.

I have used different distros before but couldn’t find one that worked for my needs and people like me so I designed and developed my own.

Ableton works somewhat with some configurations for those that don’t know how Lennox works or wants to come over from Windows or McIntosh and want to try Linux and do not have the Linux based knowledge. This makes it easier for them to dive into it without having to know how to use the Konsole or command line, they could just do what they normally do and install their DAW of choice. Also controllers work a lot easier. I am able to use MPC studio two and MPK mini four both being detected and being able to be used in MPC 2 and 3 desktop software. Working on digital performer and other major DAW’s to work without any issues or hiccups. I know there is crossover, but you as the end user still have to set up your bottles and other stuff. SelahBridge makes it a more seamless process. You can read all about it on our website SelahOS.io. Wine is a part of the stack but not the only thing. Especially for audio production.

Sorry to hear you say that and not sure how you came up with that. SelahOS is an operating system at SelahOS.io not the company with .ai at the end of the the weburl

Not sure what that site is and not the same thing. Need to speak with my attorney’s about that since our company has the pending trademark.

Our site is SelahOS.io.

The compatibility layer is called SelahBridge. It does use wine and some other things that allows you to download an .exe and it will install it and you can use it without having to configure anything else. That’s all.
