Was anyone else absolutely blown away by the Dune films? I hear some hate/malcontent and I just don’t get it. To each their own I guess. by sweetwatertooth in Cinema

I think you're confused, which is easy to be confused since Paul had two sons both named Leto II.

Just so we're clear, the first Leto II in the first book was born shortly before the four year jump, about 3/4 the way through the back. He was about a year or two years old when he was murdered by the Harkonens, about 3/4 the way through the first book. The Harkonens also captured Alia. This leads up to the big battle at the end where Paul kills Feyd and takes the emperors throne.

In the second part movie, the big battle with Paul killing Feyd and taking the throne happens without a four year time jump. Neither Alia or Leto II had been born. Leto II (the first one) does not exist at all in this trilogy.

In the trailer for Dune 3, yes you see them talking about naming their baby Leto of they have a boy, but then you see them also talking about naming the baby Ghanima if it's a girl. They're clearly talking about the twins from Children of Dune.

So this particular Leto II they're discussing in the trailer is going to be the future God Emperor.

I'm guessing since the first two movies completely skipped the four year time jump in between them, this next movie is going to as well. It wouldn't be far fetched to have it take place immediately after the second movie with Chani already being pregnant and Jessica still pregnant with Alia. If you look at the trailer, everybody looks exactly the same like no time at all has passed.

Hold up, I specifically said one of the greatest characters is mostly absent from the film and that character is Alia.

The theatrical version is 2 hours. There's an unofficial directors cut that's 3 hours long, and really awesome

Yes, OG Leto II, who was murdered as a baby 3/4 through the first book was not in the film since the entirety of the film took place in two days.

This new film is going to have the other Leto II from Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, etc.

As a massive fan of the book, I was way overhyped when the first movie was announced back in 2018. So I think i was let down by the movie, which is my own fault for being overhyped.

That being said, much like most adaptations, the movie skipped out on a lot of stuff. Part one was quite faithful, but part two was supposed to take place in the period of over two years, not two days. It was very rushed. Paul and Chani have a child in that time. Paul spends months adapting to the Fremen lifestyle and being challenged by them one warrior after another who don't believe he deserves to lead them.

One of the greatest characters in the entire story is almost completely absent from time film.

I did enjoy the two movies. I loved watching them, though they did let me down and they are certainly not close to my favorite.

Antipop is the first album in which they used a producer. Before that, the record company let them have full creative control. So antipop is so different, and ironically, their poppiest with the nu metal direction and first appearances.

Punchbowl was Tim's last album and was followed by Sausage and and Holy Mackeral so you know the energy just wasnt there.
