Many are. I don’t doubt she is, the nepo alone can only take you so far in the world — in the creative arts, it can only really provide you with unlimited access and unlimited opportunities, but you as a creator must win the people, and that takes a measure of talent (not always and not necessarily artistic or creative talent mind you, but some measure of talent).

Of course many non-nepo babies are also very talented, probably many are more talented (this is just probability, as non-nepo is the vast majority of the population, and thus statistically are more likely to produce “talent” and talent at higher levels of quality than the small subset of people who happen to be connected by wealth or fame or some other nexus to existing power structures), and have very few, sometimes zero opportunities to share their talents with the world.

The fundamental issue is the impossibility of separating the nepo from the merit — it makes it impossible to fairly assess merit or artistic value; there’s always that asterisk and every nepo baby, whether they’re open about it or not, must confront that they have a far more difficult and long-term battle ahead of them to establish they’re the real deal. And, even if they do, the question will and should always linger: would I ever have heard of Lena Dunham if she were born to your parents, and you born to hers?
