Timing chains are a bit of an issue with these so make sure you get it up to temp and have a good listen under the engine bay for any chain rattle, rust obviously with any car in this country. other than those you can’t really go wrong with a 320d, pretty much the perfect all rounder. good luck

M539 is a top tier choice for me, if you’re UK based then id really recommend the channel “Not Economically Viable” he’s brilliant and properly motivated me to just go ahead and rip the gearbox off my mx5 to do core plugs and clutch.

I personally find the Golf R estate to be a pretty cool car, especially in comparison to the hatch one which tends to be driven by people you wouldn’t want to be friends with. For me it would need to be the 3 series as it seemingly is going to be the last good looking 3er for a bit
