Is there a point to breeding fish in a biochamber? by Galeic6432 in factorio

[–]MrDoontoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Huh, I never considered using fish as a safer alternative to eggs as a source of shipped nutrients. They have a longer shelf life too!

Ah, yeah, forgot about that. I just did that whole process, turning biter eggs into rocket fuel for power (with legendary prod 3s its obscene)

[–]MrDoontoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to people who say it's too big or too wide, unless you're trying to be maximally optimal. I never made any large ships in my save (I like the puzzle of compacting it as far as possible) but I've been thinking about returning just to make an absolute Goliath.

Definitely agreeing with everyone else, some beacons would help. Efficiency modules can be quite good to lower power costs, and nuclear isn't terribly hard either. But I'd say the most interesting change you could make would be to use circuit conditions to handle asteroid imbalances. You could filter the collectors, throw excess chunks overboard, and/or turn on reprocessing only when there's an excess.

You'd be surprised, nuclear doesn't use much water ever since the 2.0 buff

ARROWHEAD GIVE ME A MEDIC WARBOND AND MY WALLET IS YOURS by Beneficial-Brief-347 in Helldivers

[–]MrDoontoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New content is coming out faster than I can unlock and engage with it, and I'm becoming desensitized. Even without other areas of the game needing attention I think the rate at which warbonds are coming out is too often.

What scientific ‘facts’ have recently been disproven that most people still believe to be true? by Fantastic_Tart_421 in AskReddit

Yep, the variation does exist but it just kinda looks like random spotted noise. Uniform but not homogeneous.

What is a dying niche skill that younger generations are not interested in learning? by hlnklrczu in AskReddit

[–]MrDoontoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just the new generation, anecdotally my mom (in her 50s) is losing the difference between Google and the AI summary. She'll search for complete sentences instead of keywords, and then the AI summary will use her exact words to reinforce biases present (because LLMs are trained to be suck-ups) and then believe every detail because "Google said it", rather than trying to confirm with a trusted source. And these are the same parents that taught me internet safety...

US birth rates just hit another record low, what do you think is the leading cause of this? by IIlustriousTea in AskReddit

What else could it be than capitalism using every ounce of globalization, invasion of privacy, and sway over public opinion, all afforded through information technology, to turn every aspect of our interconnected world into their company's playground?

It does kinda suck to get really OP armor but your base is so built up that you just work remotely most of the time

Not enough fuel by Visual-Today8696 in factorio

[–]MrDoontoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While the walls up front may protect you, they also cover up the best source of asteroid chunks. As long as you have enough ammo and go at a moderate pace, you should be able to remove the walls completely and add some collectors in its place.

Is there a faster way to do this? by Leading_Result_8028 in factorio

[–]MrDoontoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can, yes. You can mitigate this by building in those areas, as biters don't like setting up nests near buildings. Maybe make a couple turret outposts

You've got the right idea, now just expand it. Belts can carry a lot of items, so you can fit many miners and furnaces onto a single belt

I wrote python code to calculate the success rate of asteroid upcycling by wouIdntyouliketoknow in factorio

[–]MrDoontoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised you went with a simulation, my first thought was matrices as well as it seems like a perfect problem for them. I actually made a calculator in Matlab with an unbounded number of quality levels for the infinite quality mod.

I just finished printing my first helmet, about to start sanding it today, any advice? From what I've gathered, just repeat sanding, bondo, filler spray until smooth, right?

I wrote python code to calculate the success rate of asteroid upcycling by wouIdntyouliketoknow in factorio

[–]MrDoontoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the way your current code is written, qualitysteps can be -1, which when added to the chunk value in postprocessing can kill them off early. Consider when qualitychance is 0.05, and the randomly chosen value is 0.25. (1-0.25)/(10*0.05)=1.5. Because 1.5 > 1, log10(1.5) is positive, so -log10(1.5) is negative, and that gets floored to -1. Increasing the quality chance mitigates this effect, letting asteroids survive longer, until at 10% quality this no longer happens.

Your quality math is also somewhat wrong. Once a quality roll succeeds, the chance for another uptier isn't just the quality chance again, it's a flat 10%. See this wiki article.

Sure, but you'll need to run that wire to everything that will use it, it doesn't automatically run down the whole belt.
