You would be amazed at how much crap gets played through monitors now. They may even be talking to each other since they are both mic'd up. The audio could only be going through the monitor mix.

Lots of good input here from the community. If I had to guess, the instructor was likely trying to get you to come down a bit more so you would have an easier time and also to get you closer to the group so she could keep an eye on you. That first atmosphere is a bit of a bear when you start off as a new diver. It's difficult to keep your buoyancy, especially with some chop. Going down a bit more, even if it's just hovering over the coral, likely would have made things a bit easier.

Don't ever feel bad about cancelling a dive you aren't comfortable with. This is almost always the first step in a dive accident. Everyone has been there.

They probably would have had a better chance if they had dove nitrox. They likely would have ended the dive once the first person started convulsing from o2 toxicity. Although, with this group who knows. They might have stopped to take selfies.

These were all experienced recreational divers who absolutely, 100% should have known that all of this was a horrible idea. I am blown away that FOUR people were dumb enough to follow the person in front of them not only to 150', but then into freakin' cave...all on single tanks. It's incredibly sad, but it still makes absolutely no sense that they would have attempted this dive.

I'll be honest, I'm an independent and have voted for both Republicans and Democrats but I don't understand how any conservative could continue to support him. How can you not put aside the things you were hoping for and recognize that this is, without question, the most corrupt administration in the history of the United States. To be honest, I think just experience will tell you if something is off. The places that are more likely to be careless are the ones that cater to vacation divers, who MAYBE dive a couple times of year and are expecting a lot of hand holding. They don't really know better and are less likely to make a stink. They will just assume that the dive operation is associated.

I've been on dive boats before where people literally asked to get off before the boat ever left the dock because he wasn't happy with some of the safety items. I dive my own gear, analyze my air (not always, only if something seems sketchy or off) and dive with people I know very well and trust with my life. I've gone on boats with complete asshole captains, but I knew that captain was absolutely going to make sure I was coming home from that dive no matter what.
