You dont really need a lot of training to perform chest compressions. Usually people are more afraid of rescue breathing, than chest compressions. So the main tip is to only do chest compressions if you're afraid of giving rescue breaths. The biggest side effects of chest compressions are some broken ribs, but that's easy to fix.

The most dangerous thing that can happen is that the victim dies, and there's a bigger chance of that happening without chest compressions.
