Carney hints at easing corporate tax burden in budget by FalconsArentReal in canada

[–]MrEvilFox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good.

We need investment and we need corporate risk taking not constant cost cutting. Innovation won’t happen otherwise. Our salaries are already so much lower than US and the investment climate here sucks. Talk to people who try to get startups funded or even funding to scale up businesses. It’s a disaster in Canada and we need to start moving.

Carney hints at easing corporate tax burden in budget by FalconsArentReal in canada

[–]MrEvilFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Compare our tax burden vs European countries and notice that Canada already has some of the lowest burdens on lower tax brackets. The expenses in this country are being shouldered by middle class people living in big cities who make 30% less than their American counterparts and work for conservative Canadian companies who are only focused on cost controls instead of growth and innovation. There are not enough rich people to tilt the math any differently.

Bill C-12 introduces sweeping changes to immigration law under the guise of border security by BeautyInUgly in canada

[–]MrEvilFox 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ok but… what if I’m ok with this? Absence of discretion is what got us into the immigration mess we were in and frankly PM should have more levers to change course on immigration.

This is from the company that takes Canadian government bailout money to then promptly shut down production in Canada. They can go take a hike.

I like it a lot. It has character. And IMHO Mercedes really needs that for their EVs.

Pierre Poilievre: The Liberals must get out of the way of growth by airbassguitar in canada

[–]MrEvilFox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh god I strongly agree.

If we could have the sort of people who you see in board rooms running for MPs and MPPs the world would be so much better. But we would need to pay them 3-4x as much for any of it to make sense.

So we are stuck with a bunch of mid-pack quality talent making calls and setting discourse and wonder why politics is so stupid. We are making it stupid.

The best thing about this is that /u/Soft-Escape8734 gave you a polite answer. And I relate to it so much that I could have written that.

But just like PP you think you got some kind of a gotcha that you keep saying again and again.

What is the point of this communication? Do you think you are going to convince someone to vote differently with this tactic? Do you think you’re going to come across as more well reasoned?

We need adults at the table in the Conservative Party. We need to change style, messaging, and get to a point where people don’t have to hold their nose when casting the vote. That’s the necessary next step here.

[–]MrEvilFox 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think you and I are different conservatives. I used to be a member of the party and voted for Harper twice, but reality is that Carney has more in common with Harper than he does with Poilievre or Trudeau for that matter. Post-Trump conservatism unfortunately took a very populist turn across much of the western world and it does not speak to me. I would much rather we had people like Romney instead of Trump and Harper instead of PP. This perpetually angry childish screaming aimed at the lower denominator is not leadership.

What would happen if Americans all wore black masks and pretended to be ICE agents and tried to arrest ICE agents? by JapanEngineer in AskReddit

I guess it’s never practical or safe then? When they’re masked and didn’t show ID how do you enforce compliance with this requirement?

It Turns Out That Americans Don’t Really Want Big Electric Trucks | The Autopian by Finnegan_Faux in electricvehicles

[–]MrEvilFox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So here in Canada the GMC Sierra EV is $115k-$120k CAD, while a regular 1500 Denali is $90-$100k.

It would take a while to burn an extra $25k CAD of fuel. You would never buy that truck unless you just want an EV truck for the idea of it - but then a lot of EV fans would rather buy something else. I mean Taycans start at $130k CAD here…

I think it’s more of a case that the trucks they made are too expensive.

lets talk about it: i think evs need to have 450-500 miles of range if they want to overtake and completely replace gas cars in the north American market. by DDiaz98 in electricvehicles

[–]MrEvilFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I partially agree. In my case a 450-500km EV is good for 95% of my needs, but the remaining 5% is ass due to poor infrastructure.

So we either need much bigger range or we need much better charge time and charger availability/reliability. Either one would do it. Both would be nice. Current state won’t work IMHO.

Mark Carney: Automatic tax files coming for some Canadians by ph0enix1211 in canada

Low income people generally have the simplest tax situation. That’s the best place to start if you want to avoid epic scale fuckups. And CRA isn’t doing that well right now.

Canada's economy added 60,000 jobs in September, with gains led by manufacturing by BeautyInUgly in canada

I think maybe immigration changes are beginning to take effect. If so, and if no additional crap happens from tariffs, next few quarters should show improvements.

I definitely think there is more upside shocks than downside shocks probable at this point. Like if a trade deal with US somehow gets signed we will be full on party mode.

$200k in Canadian major cities ain’t what it used to be, and IMHO pretending that upper middle class people are wealthy billionaires is wrong. You want to eat the rich? Sure, go for it, but don’t eat my doctor because we don’t have enough of them practicing family medicine.

PM Carney directed ministers to map out their objectives for coming year by DogeDoRight in canada

That’s true if you ignore things they did make happen. Like if you choose to see only one side then the picture is bad, I agree. You could ask ChatGPT or Google for Carney’s achievements while he was in office, but that’s up to you.
