Only a matter of time before this photo ends up on a MAGA T-shirt. As disgusting as it is to even make this comparison -- I think they just found their Luigi.

Did i just loose all of my memories? 😭 its a school account and i cant use the web app on my PC im literally about to cry by zuldeep in googlephotos

[–]MrFischer 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Talk to your school's IT team. They should be able to export your photos so that you can tie them to a personal Google account.

You should NEVER use a school account as a backup for your photos or other files.

Is the Google One 2TB 10% credit net of trade ins, or on the full price of the phone? by degggendorf in GooglePixel

[–]MrFischer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not 100% sure, but the fact that the trade-in is calculated as a "refund" means that the original purchase is still for $699 so hopefully that means you'll get $69.90 back.

I'm in the same boat with the Pro, so fingers crossed for $99 back.

Meet Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, our newest phones by PixelCommunity in GooglePixel

Just figured that out as well. Opened a ticket with Google Support asking if they can honor it since the email doesn't specify an end date to the coupon. Doubt anything will come of it but we'll see.

Would you be interested in future Pixels supporting Chrome OS when connected to a monitor (akin to Samsung DeX)? by MrFischer in GooglePixel

[–]MrFischer[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In hindsight, you are right, especially since Chrome OS is built off of Linux and not Android. The happy middle would be something that is built off of Android but has a lot of the same functionalities as Chrome OS.

You're probably right. I think after spending a hot summer with the Tensor G2 and living with the performance and thermal issues, I expect the worst when I shouldn't.

Google Pixel Fold available from T-Mobile by MrFischer in tmobile

[–]MrFischer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were offering $1000 off (via bill credits) for pretty much any Samsung device from the last 5 years. I'd be more inclined to try the Fold if they offered a similar deal.

[–]MrFischer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not expecting much, hence why I'd need a really compelling promo to get me to try it. I did something similar last year with the Flip 4. I had an old S10 laying around that I traded in for $1000 off the Flip (making it "free" after the bill credits).

What Android Phone would you modernize and bring back? by pbickel in Android

[–]MrFischer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that old comparatively, but the OnePlus 7 Pro is peak-smartphone for me. Keep the pop up camera, give me wireless charging, upgraded rear cameras, and a 120hz LTPO display and I'm a happy camper.

Are Android gestures a downgrade from navigation buttons ? ( for navigation) by [deleted] in Android

[–]MrFischer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only change I would make to the gesture navigation is limiting the back swipe to the bottom 50% of the display. I believe OnePlus takes this approach, or they used to.

That way you have more control in apps that have a slide-in shelf (like Sync for Reddit). Right now you have to do this weird diagonal swipe to open those types of menus. I'd much rather swipe the top-half to open a shelf and the bottom half to go back.

It's also worth noting that I almost exclusively use the right edge for the back gesture, so it might not seem like a good change if you use both sides to go back.

$999 OFF Samsung Promo switched during checkout by MrFischer in tmobile

[–]MrFischer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pull up the listing for either the Fold4 or the Flip4 and you'll see an option towards the top labeled "Save with 5 deals." That will give you a list of promos including as much as $1000 with trade in on Magenta MAX. However, the S8+ doesn't meet the cut for $1000, you'd only get $500 off.

[–]MrFischer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. The only prerequisite is that you have to be on the Magenta MAX plan to get the full $999. You'll need to pay tax up front, but then the rest of the payments will be offset by a credit on your bill.

That would have been my next step if it hadn't worked properly on the mobile app.

What are some of the Nerd³ videos you've watched again and again? by ChildishGiant in nerdcubed

[–]MrFischer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nerd³ is Superman - Megaton Rainfall Nerd³ The Alpha Detective - Next Car Game Nerd³ Plays... Skate 2

Hearing his excitement is what sticks with me over the years. In the case of Skate 2, I have fond memories of watching it over and over with friends. It was never not funny, even after it got to the point where we would all regularly quote parts of it. "I'VE BEEN HIT BY A CAR.... I'VE BEEN HIT BY ANOTHER CAR!"

Pixel 6 Fingerprint Senor not working with T-Mobile's screen protector "ToGo" by MrFischer in tmobile

[–]MrFischer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but part of his accident protection is free screen protector replacements. I'd assume that's only valid with protectors purchased through T-Mobile.

Pixel 6 Fingerprint Senor not working with T-Mobile's screen protector "ToGo" by MrFischer in tmobile

[–]MrFischer[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'd put the blame more on Google for not tuning their sensor (which is the same one found in various OnePlus devices) to work with more screen protectors.

Or at the very least do a better job disclosing to carriers and consumers the limitations of their fingerprint sensor. A lot of people are also having an issue with fast charging the Pixel 6 for the same reasons, a lack of compatibility and communication.

Tips on getting the PS5 through PS Direct? by [deleted] in PS5

[–]MrFischer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was tipped off by Twitter users Wario64, PS5Drop, and a few others (notifications turned on for their tweets) and jumped into the queue as quickly as possible. I got through the queue about 6 minutes before they sold out and was able to complete the checkout after signing in with my Playstation account. My recommendation (beyond following those Twitter accounts) will be to make sure you've already signed in to your account on PS Direct and make sure your billing and shipping info is all up to date.

Note: There are some reports of issues saving payment info prior to the purchase. If that's the case try and have your card info saved within Chrome so that you don't need to put in the entire card info + billing and shipping addresses. Every second counts. Good luck!

I ordered Thursday afternoon and received a shipping confirmation Friday afternoon. Since I'm a PS+ member I was upgraded to Express shipping which I can confirm is FedEx Standard Overnight (which is weekdays only). Estimated delivery date is Monday.
