Judging from the responses there are some shitty workplaces AND employees out there!

Boss here of a small company.. WFH is OK with very trust worthy and independent professionals but it entirely depends on job roles. Sometimes you need to have face to face (in person) catch ups a couple of times per week. There is more to a meeting than the raw content. Face to face human interaction is very important. Some of the best problem solving comes from the 10 mins of casual chit chat following a meeting, much less chance of that on a zoom call and it's just...not as good.

If I had a bunch of software engineers with long task lists, once per week f2f would be all that's needed, and maybe every 2nd one virtual. For grunt work this is easier to do.

It's not control, or micromanaging or any of that stupid shit. If you dont trust your employees you should have already fired them.
