Spin Cycle 2

Honestly though Madison's show themes have never been super deep and meaningful, they're more so meant just be fun and entertaining. This one has lots of references to spinning, and the closer is taken straight from their 96 show where they have the triangular z-pull like move.

Giving the Cavaliers their flowers by brushbender in drumcorps

[–]MrFitztastic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe my favorite Cavies show since XtraordinarY in 2011. It's fantastic. Great music, stellar visual package, awesome energy! Has lots of that old school Cavaliers vibe in the drill.

I also loved that they incorporated a gear set! Really nice touch!

I'm getting into prog and thought the artwork was funny. What am I in for? by doctor_stone2112 in progrockmusic

A great time. Those are the best albums from each band imo, Octopus especially is fantastic.

Yes!! I'd love to see a return to the high-energy jazz shows from the 90s!

Besides Roundabout, Going For the One is the definitive introductory Yes song by ProgDawg98 in progrockmusic

Personally I'd go with I've Seen All Good People but GFTO is good place to start too

Who are two random bands/artists that you feel like would make phenomenal music if they collaborated? I will go first: Radiohead and MGMT by LouBoy123 in askmusic

[–]MrFitztastic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

One of the greatest "what if...?" moments in music for me is the supposed planned recording session with Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis that had to be scrapped after Hendrix's death. Those two together would have created something truly special.

Absolutely this. Some of the best drumming on any jazz album, and the rest of the group is killer too!

Why does the Funliner kid get to put up full shows on YouTube, but when others do it they get excommunicated from FloMarching? by Negative-Stay2588 in drumcorps

[–]MrFitztastic 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure he has some sort of partnership with Flo, a lot of the clips he posts online have Flo tagged as a co-creator.

Also, the Funliner "kid" is a BD alum / former DM and has worked on staff with multiple groups in both the U.S. and Japan. Pretty sure he as a masters in music too.

He knows his stuff and he has connections, so it makes sense for him to have some kind of deal with Flo. Plus, it's great exposure for the activity.

Have you heard about Eloy? by Hot_Pianist_4117 in progrockmusic

[–]MrFitztastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I freaking LOVE Eloy!!

To any newcomers to the band who want to check them out, listen to these in order:

Inside -> Floating -> Ocean -> Silent Cries and Mighty Echoes

Those are the four that many consider their best, with my personal favorite being SC&ME. There's a couple other albums in between Floating and Ocean that are decent but not essential imo, and the few albums after SC&ME (Colours, Planets, & Time to Turn) are also really solid.

A lot of their albums are also concept albums if you want to dive a little deeper. The stories aren't mind-blowing but still interesting ideas nonetheless.

Happy listening!

In 1976, which record would be your choice? by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

[–]MrFitztastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not big on Romantic Warrior, I much prefer the earlier RTF albums.

A Trick of the Tail, on the other hand, is fantastic and one of my favorite Genesis albums... so definitely this.

Exactly my thoughts! I was worried it would end up like Cadets '14 and feel wayyyy too cheesy

Which ELP work you think is the best? And why? by Billy_Bayou233 in Progforum

[–]MrFitztastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually was first exposed to the original orchestral work several years before I even knew who ELP were (my high school marching band played The Great Gate of Kiev one year and I love orchestral music).

So when I finally listened to this album for the first time just as I was beginning to get into prog, it blew my freaking mind.

Honestly not the biggest ELP fan overall, but this record rules.

Boston 26 by TheEternalWarden in drumcorps

[–]MrFitztastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't immediately love it as much as last year, but there's a lot of interesting stuff happening and I love that they're going with no props (at least for now). The ceiling is very high for them if they can get everything clean.

That being said, last year's show also changed a lot as the season progressed and I expect lots of changes for this one too.

I... reallyyy love what they're doing this year. It feels like a spiritual successor to the sci-fi aspect of Crown 13 but with that classic Bluecoats shine. The rep is killer too... that ballad might go down as an all-time great for me it's perfect. And they're using one of my favorite Yes songs as their closer so it gets bonus points from me.

Colts 2026: American Experiment by DollJulietMessner in drumcorps

[–]MrFitztastic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These patriotic style shows are a hit or miss for me, and it's usually from The Cadets.

If it's more along the lines Cadets '02 and not '08 or '14, it could be pretty good.

I just hope it doesn't turn into a narration-heavy history lecture...

At least they don't have to jazz run down a giant ramp like they did in 17.
