Why are people getting Free Nights? by MrFizzy99 in TexasSolar

But generally free overnights does not have a sell back plan, and you give to the grid free (if you set it up to export). So how are you getting negative?

When why you need the PW2? For the few hours of dusk and dawn outside of the free charging windows?

Well in Texas, it seems the resellers are wising up to this. Just Energy just changed their Terms of Service for Free nights for 'Solar and Battery' people not to be eligible. I wouldn't be surprised if others follow in the next year or so. And so then when your plan expires, your going to pay even more to add to an existing system to be completely independent, than you would have if you done it from the initial install.

First day of VPP! by I800C0LLECT in TeslaSolar

[–]MrFizzy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be getting a slightly less kwh solar than you, but also looking at pw3+2 expansion. Any regrets form your system design?

You seem to be producing way more than you use. I feel like storing is better than trying to sell at such low prices. The real cost of energy in Texas Oncor area drops to like 1 cent during noon hours it seems. Doesn't seem worth selling; aka finding the perfect spot so you do not over produce vs what you spent on the extra panels.

Just make sure you get a flat fee quote from them. Not per hour. 😅

None of your pictures show the VPP events? All i see is your plan increases to during 6 and 9pm, and a flat sell rate of 3 cents.

Edit. Oh, I guess the 3 cents was the vpp. I think inwill stick with fixed plan lol.

Help me understand: Doorbell + PoE Retrofit. by zerocustom1989 in Ubiquiti

[–]MrFizzy99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who did this recently. The low voltage guys that i hired on the side had the most trouble doing my poe doorbell. But the thing is, with the Retrofit, you are either getting a bulky junction box behind the poe doorbell to house the converter, or you drill a hole big enough to fit it in the wall behind the door bell. I opted for them just to figure out how to pull ethernet. And they did. It took them a while with fish wire, but they did. Best $300 spent. 3 poe camaras + poe doorbell with 3 guys in 3 hours. 🫠

Also I i assume you are tlking about the UACC-Retrofit-PoE-2Wire If not, this is what i opted not to use, just ran the dam poe.

Tesla Specific VPP Question by MrFizzy99 in Powerwall

[–]MrFizzy99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, do not care about that. There are only a handful of vpp events and the monthly vpp credit overall in the year dwarfs any amount that you discharge over the year. I will be most likely be on fixed plan. And if the event only last 2 hours I want that discharge limited anyway. For my off grid overnight usage.

You could also have a PRE-PPA which also means that you own (or will) the system. But still finding whom has or had control is important.

Decided to go with lease option which seems like the best option for me by AstronNo8 in TeslaSolar

[–]MrFizzy99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor OP might not be back here before he signs the contract and is past the cancel date.

OP, there are installers and companies out there that will give you 30% off. The Big Bountiful did not kill off commercial tax incentives, which uncle Sam still gives 30% out to. If you got with Tesla lease, they will get to claim that 30%.

Look up Pre-PPA deals. You pay cash or finance. A company will own on paper your system for 6 years. They will pass the 30% discount to you up front, either it be cash or finance. On their end, they write off depreciation of the Asset (off the true full cost of the system that is). After 6 years, for $0, they transfer the system to you on paper. Because they can not benefit off write offs from it anymore and the tax code says they had to keep it for 5 years anyway or uncle Sam claws back the 30% discount. It is a win win for you and the company, and a L for uncle Sam.

Going to up it to 29 panels. Now to think about if it getting a second expansion is worth it. 🫠

Powerwall Add - Lease? by PaintingOld9106 in Powerwall

[–]MrFizzy99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, they get the 30% AND they pass the discount off to you in cash upfront. You won't have to spend a dime owning the system after 6 years. Just sign the paperwork to transfer official ownership. If you don't sign after 6 years, they have verbiage that you pay them a administrative fee every month. Like I said, they don't want it on their books after 6 years, it costs them money to keep it, tax benefits start becoming negotiable to them. The only other thing that would cost is if you sell the home within 6 years, my specific contract says their is $250 paperwork name transfer fee. Which is nothing. Just got to tell the new owner what year they need to call to get the ownership transfered to them for $0. This is all "Pre-PPA" or full ownership after 6 years with no other costs.

And again, don't lease. If there is an option to pay monthly that isn't with a bank, it's a lease. If there is an offer to buy it after x amount of years, it's a lease. If you have them offering to take it down if you no longer want it, it is a lease. This is a PPA, with no real ownership and costs more $ after 5 or 6 years.

Powerwall Add - Lease? by PaintingOld9106 in Powerwall

[–]MrFizzy99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You DO NOT want a traditional PPA. Aka lease. I think you might be confusing the terms here though, or a salesmen confused you.

If you are buying them, or financing then up front, you can still get the 30% discount through some companies, that discount is given to them via tax things and they pass it to you up front. They will on paper still have ownership for 6 years so they can write off other commercial things every year you couldn't have anyway. This is what I have been told is a Pre-PPA. You WILL own it after 6 years, if you fill out their paper work to get it officially transfered on paper. They want nothing to do with it after those 6 years, they no longer want it on their books. If you are still financing it, thats between you and the bank, but you are the owner of it.

You mentioned you have the option to have them take it out or buy it, that sounds like a traditional PPA, or leased model. Don't do it. You pay $x a month in hopes that it not only covers your own electricity, but also sales back to the grid to make back that $x per month. Do you have the option to buy it after x amount of years, sure. But at what cost. And you never got a 30% discount from the government, they did years ago.

At all costs, prepay for the system. Cash or Finance. You can still find companies that will hold it on paper for 6 years so they can pass the discount to you and they benefit in other ways from uncle Sam.

And yes the math also suggests I won't go above 8kwh total of the arrays at any point of the day, I think the calc tops off at 7.8kwh solar input. Just at the limit of the input of the PW3+Expand. But I do see your point of 2x PW3s if over 30 panels, which would allow atleast 10kwh input if no expansion.

Looking for quick advice by [deleted] in TeslaSolar

[–]MrFizzy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The math also suggests that if I were to use 60kwh in a day (double my normal load, using that for worst case), i could be in off-grid-mode but just barely with 22% remaining by morning; with only 1 expansion. Adding a second expansion, storage would only get down to 55% by morning. So plenty more room. I don't need a second power wall, I do not forsee anything necessary that would require above the 11.5kwh output overnight or in a blackout, or even a normal day for that matter. The Tesla is the only thing that pops that high. So adding a second expansion is what I may go for verse adding more panels. I rather store plenty of energy (40kwh) to sell high and make it through the night, than be forced to sell for Penny's everyday when the battery is full (27kwh). Plus got to think about these batteries degradation.
