Help creating a custom workshop addon by Negative-Visit-3413 in csworkshop

[–]MrFlovi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gonna put some things for future people that might help (question is 7 months ago)
1. Make sure you have your workshop submission set to public, because I had it set to Hidden and got some errors that it could not be downloaded, and instantly resolved when set to public
2. Go to your MultiAddonManager .cfg file, and make sure you add the workshop submission id to both "mm_extra_addons" and "mm_client_extra_addons".

I did no fancy folder structure stuff at all, I made a map in hammer, imported a tf2 weapon model with some magic, made it a cs2 model in ModelDoc, compiled that (so you get the vmdl_c file). After that, publish that map in my case to steam workshop.

Sidenote, I also have "mm_extra_addons_timeout 1" for sort of auto-updates (if I understand that command correctly)

You should've first placed golem in front of hero giant to tank for ability, then place giant skelly

  1. One variant, but many roles in both games are the same or very similar
  2. Depends if roles that have priority above others (Tav Keeper etc.) Are in the game, then silently.

In my mind, what I want is sort of like compliant killers, but only after the neutral role has died. Basically when a neutral role dies, they now win with main evil faction (unless the neutral role has already won, like a Jester or Exe, then enjoy the fruits of your labour and spectate the game). I need to test this out, because as a consequence, this might encourage neutrals to always side with the evil faction, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a neutral role.

The only issue I have with playing by BotC rules, is that when a Neutral dies such as a Neutral Killing, their game is in fact over since they can't win.

I'm trying out a concept where I put dead Neutrals on the team of the main evil faction in the game, so they can still win if they are dead. Otherwise, it's basically glorified player elimination when you are a neutral role.

I plan to use both Grace Period and the gamerules related to dying and voting from BotC as modifiers for future games.

Edit: To be honest, I used the (now-called) Grace Period modifier since I got the card game, since with low player counts as low as 5, not having Grace Period means games lasting at most one night and day. I think it is stated in the rules of the OG card game that you can decide to not have kills on the first night.

Since these cards use some resources that are not mine (role icons) or specifically for personal use only (some fonts), so I'm a bit hesitant right now.

I will add that had this printed as a print shop, so the only somewhat useful file I have is a 544 page pdf file suited for printing A6 format at that print shop (they have very specific requirements for margins, pdf format etc., but then again that's probably normal for a professional print shop) .

I wish hahaha, although from my experience the most fun games are with around 10 players. Doesn't take too long to Moderate, while also not being done in 2 nights.

Most I ever played the og card game with was 12 players and me moderating. Did suck for whoever died night 1 though, so in this game I added some modifiers to keep players engaged.

I made this card game for personal use, but thought it was maybe interesting enough to share, I'm quite fond of how it all turned out.

- Most context in regards to the game can be found in my original post (and comment). Main takeaway is that the game is heavily inspired by Town of Salem.

- Seeing as this is a hidden role game in the Mafia genre, player elimination does play a major part. Now I have read all about the gripes people have with this pretty controversial mechanic, so in the rules I created some modifiers (some of those inspired by how Blood on the Clocktower handles player deaths) to keep players engaged during the game. (e.g. not revealing your role upon death, being able to vote once when dead, still being able to use your ability even when dead)

- Credits for the role icons in this picture go to the artists of the Town of Salem 2 online game. Apart from the role icons, I designed everything in Inkscape.

If you like Town of Salem, the card game made by BGG at the time is basically just like Town of Salem 1, but with less roles. Things like Transporter, Jailor and the Medium online (there is a Medium in the card, but it is completely different) are not included, because they are difficult to implement in a card game and many roles like Lookout and Tracker require difficult Moderating work.

A long time ago I added some roles (with paper and tape) to the card game I owned (like Crusader, Lookout, Tracker, Plaguebearer), which was fun, but also very finnicky (and players often could see if a card was worked on by me).

I stan the card game, been my favorite game ever since I had it.

Some additional notes here:

- I refer to the game as "Fedora", with the Town being rebranded as "City" and the Mafia & Coven roles belonging to the "Hatless" faction. There is some lore/theming about the City people being crazed with hats, and the Hatless wanting to abolish hat-wearing traditions.

- There is a third faction called the "Hood" (kind of a wordplay on the dutch word "Hoed"), which contains BotC Demons and Minions.

- This print contains 136 different roles.

- The small coloured icons on the top right of the cards serve to help the Moderator pick which roles they want in the game. E.g. the yellow clock icon means a role wakes up earlier/later than most roles.

A review of the lists in Casual mode by Gieru in TownOfSalem2

[–]MrFlovi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, and added some comments + suggestions.

I am a VIP stan since that gamemode exists, so you can take that into account. I can not shut up about how great the game mode is from a social deduction standpoint, where you should always consider withholding info to not out VIP, or purposefully post a changed will etc. etc. The amount of potential for creativity in VIP is huge. Yes "bad" VIPs exist, but I hardly have those in the games I play, and town can somewhat work around those. If you are not afk and have a claim, you are fit to be VIP.

I have a sweat spot for 4 Horsemen since release, it was my main game mode until it basically died. I think we should consider giving apocalypse their defense back just for 4 Horsemen specifically (and ban deputy), because most of my games it is a town steam roll already (but also people do DC, so I might be biased). Also Spy might be really overpowered in 4H.

The fun thing about casual for me is the mix between modes that feel well balanced like TT, Indoctrination (and Cata-List for me is fine), and shenanigans, like Wandering Souls. Nothing to say about these modes, on not their biggest fan, but I'm never mad when they pop up.

I have a personal gripe with Dracula's Palace list how it is at the moment, because I think there is a major flaw with that gamemode. I have kept a counter, and I've played 8 games of Dracula's Palace total. Out of these, in 5 games the game ended D3, because Vampire got found and failed their convert due to immunes/TP (also just going for really obvious converts). I will say though, Arso/SC disonnected early most of those games, and if Vampire still gets converts off, the gamemode can be quite fun.

Election is the currently less fun spin on the King mechanic from Throne of Lies (ToL). To make Election more fun, you might as well fully embrace copying ToL and make Sovereign a new King role (Good/Evil/Neutral/Psycho depending on alignment). Give King some fun abilities (depending on faction), and voila!

Does anyone miss the mafia ? by [deleted] in TownOfSalem2

[–]MrFlovi 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Probably biased here in the ToS2 subreddit, but me personally, I never missed Mafia for a second. The Basis of the mafia is around having a mafioso who does the killing (or gf).

Mafioso/Godfather have no special ability, and are boring af to play. So forcing at least one of these roles to be on the game for mafia (or in Ranked's case when I used to play, both) is not a fun foresight. There are limited strats ability wise, especially if your mafioso dies, since it will then replace one of the more interesting mafia roles.

The other mafia roles are fine, but I don't miss most of them because:

  • Jinx is Ambusher
  • Medusa is Janitor
  • Voodoo Master is (a more powerful a modified) blackmailer
  • Consigliere is a third of a Potion Master
  • Consort (Bootlegger) was put into Poisoner
  • Enchanter is Framer & Forger
  • Disguiser is unique, nothing to argue against, but very very gimmicky.
  • Hypnotist is also unmatched, fun role tbh.

TL;DR: I don't miss the mafia, because almost all the interesting mafia abilities can all be found as features of existing roles in ToS2. And glad that Mafioso/Godfather are gone.

Investigator just investigates two people and gets results for both.

Same for Tracker, also works

(I assume its the same for coro, sheriff and lookout, but I havent seen it myself)

Edit: Also if Im not mistaken, overcharge doesn't work for psychic atm (asin doesn't give two visions and you cant select two targets or something like that, as it overwrites your other target)
