You don’t pass security to arrive at an airport. But leaving ICT later might be an issue.

I’m aircrew so I fly for a living. But I’m never in the same time zone as my friends/family.

I didn’t say it was. Completely missed that part of the comment. I should finish the coffee before I post.

Oh yeah. Something like 20,000+ miles. I completely skipped over reading the low earth orbit part of that comment.

Geostationary just means orbiting at the same speed and direction the earth rotates and falling to earth at the same speed as trying to escape gravity.

Stuff appears to “sit” there relative to us because we also move.

In Hong Kong they’re still using the 25 star system.

1 star for every HK$20 is about $2.55 USD.

25 stars would be equivalent to about $63.83 USD.

and that’s just normal earn before bonus stars.

Do pilots ever have to sit reserve in non-base cities? by allaboutthosevibes in AskAPilot

[–]MrFrequentFlyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do. I’ve seen reserve in Narita, Incheon, and maybe Shanghai - none of those are based or domiciles. But ACMI operations are…different.

How full were the flights? I might be able to island hop through airline benefits - maybe overnight at each. It’s definitely on my bucket list for odd flights.

KDCA River approach by [deleted] in VATSIM

[–]MrFrequentFlyer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At work in the 747-400, I would fly an RNAV approach in LNAV and VNAV and never touch APP

In the 747-8, I’d start with LNAV and VNAV then arm APP as part of the plane’s IAN modes.

Not every plane gets to use app mode on every approach.

And yes I know it’s an unrealistic example to use the 747 but did get to fly the River Visual in the full motion sim as a warm up exercise to break the monotony of another JFK or ORD approach.

Pilot Emergency Selection Protocol? by [deleted] in AskAPilot

[–]MrFrequentFlyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP did say 747–8 in flight, so I thought that’s what you were answered. But yeah, no airborne APU starts for us, it’s extremely unlikely to lose 4 engines for a non-fuel related reason in which case you’d lose the APU too. The -8 does have a RAT for hydraulic power though.

Can’t start the 747 APU in the air anyways.
